It originated from Trinidad and Tobago- a Caribbean Island. The instrument is commonly associated with calypso and soca music which also originated from Trinidad. However these genres have been adopted by other islands in the Caribbean such as St.Vincent and the Grenadines where Marlon (the lead singer of Mattafix) lived.
