There were other gay artists that were amazing,but they weren’t out. Adam Lambert stated that he was gay before he recorded his first two albums.

@@Dedhead6992 Neither one of them declared that they were gay before they recorded or sang live. It was a very different climate when they started in the music industry. Their careers would have never gotten off of the ground if they publicly declared their sexuality.

Missing here is the highly important fact that the first legislation legalizing same-sex marriage worldwide, took place in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) on 1 April 2001, led by Mayor Job Cohen . Belgium followed in 2003. Since then, same-sex marriage has been recognized successively by Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina, Denmark (later also Greenland and the Faroe Islands), Brazil, France, Uruguay, New Zealand, Luxembourg, the United States , Ireland, Colombia, Finland, Malta, Germany, Australia, Austria, Taiwan, Ecuador, United Kingdom, and Costa Rica. 19 states in Mexico also recognize same-sex marriage.

This whole list is very anglo saxon. Three times the brittish royal family were mentioned as very important for the lgbtq community. Sorry but I think other royals did gay related things before megan markle and prince william. Princes Diana? Queen Maxima? Were there no major influences from outside north America and Buckingham Palace that where more important than that prince harry's message? For example the decision of the dutch parliament to legalise same sex marriage as first in the world. I guess that had world wide much more influence.
@mijalakis3
@mijalakis3 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think you really understand the purpose of the list. It is to showcase efforts by individuals based on either the action they did that brought them up to the spotlight is shifting the spotlight they already had influencing a wider amount of people in a different way. For example Dutch parliament did not approve marriage without the power of influencers either in Netherlands or other countries in the World ready to stand up for what they believed or themselves. Because in that case the biggest example of how a federal country can generalize the decision through supreme court for gaya marriage for example would be the US being the one that made the biggest "boom" worldwide even knowing they were by far not even the first o countries to do it. Or take a small and technically poor country like Costa Rica with a solid healthcare system based in universal social security who since 10 years ago were already offering hormonal therapy for people who wanted to transition and in 2019 they court ordered the entire country that in 365 they had to adapt every single process, form or application in any institution where gay marriage becomes recognized as a legal in the country and even though that country was in the middle of the Covid 19 pandemic in May 2020 Costa Rica legalized gay marriage which is influential how a "throw world country" which in it's constitution says it's a Catholic country they allowed that, but it's not an individual effort that's an effect of somebody's work or example which is what they show here and of course royal family for example will be center stage because the Queen is head of the Anglican church of England so it's expected of her family not to do things outside of their believed although they have all gotten divorced but the same scandal and principle applies. Just like Diana with AIDS is not what she did as Princess of Wales and future Queen of England is the fact that a rich woman, daughter of an Early, married to a prince touched somebody with AIDS proving it was not contagious through touching or hugging. Her individual act is what made the difference and open people's eyes.

Please let me be able to record a small fact of gay history here. I am probably the first person to teach a class with homosexuality as the subject in a public high school in America. In 1975, I was the social studies teacher at West Side High School, a public, alternative high school on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. WSHS had a diverse group of students from the Upper West Side and Harlem neighborhoods. In 1973 I was able to come out to the students and everyone else as a gay man. In 1975 I taught a "mini course" on the History of the Gay Rights Movement. The class met for twenty two sessions. Half the sessions the students got to meet many of the now legendary early pioneers of the gay rights movement. While students were cutting many classes, this class always had an excess of students who were cutting other classes so they could be here.

This video while interesting missed two of the most important events/people in lgbtq+ history for at least three (more actually) that were nowhere near as important the two missing are first the Stonewall riots and second the election of Harvey Milk (I'm going in chronological order as the riots were in1968 and Milk was elected in 1978), these events are far more important than winning a tv competition, or releasing an album. Things like political leaders showing support do significantly impact the community, things like minor celebrities (people not widely known to the general public) are not nearly as significant many of the individuals mentioned are far from household names therefore their impact is nominal at best.

No, the *rainbow flag* signifies all the wonderful varieties of gay people. You mean "God's unwavering promises" that are almost never fulfilled? You have a problem with gay people being proud? You'd prefer guilt and shame, which crippled so many good people for far too long? Shame on you. And if you think there's anything wrong with people being gay, you should ask "God" why he makes so many men prefer men. We were BORN gay, most of us knowing how we felt long before we knew anything at all about sex. (And spare us your Biblical citations. Just because something is written in your book of fairytales, that doesn't make it true. It just means that the very cunning and clever but very mortal MEN who wrote the book wanted you to believe it. That book is a scam without parallel.)
