Clare,your dad was treated disgracefully by the British Athletics people.If they had cooperated with him and his training schedules he would have won us an Olympic medal.Tell your dad all the people and athletes at the gym where i trained,some of whom were marathon runners derided these non athletes in control.I bet your dad was fuming;if not we were fuming for him.

Yes how's this for skill as a selector...I know what we'll do we'll say have a 26 mile race & we'll pick the first 2 or 3 to run in the Olympics!! Well I could have done that - anyone could!!! And they had Thompson who had run 2.09 in 74 - he should have been selected 2 years in advance & I think we would have had gold or silver. . I remember Steve Ovett said the selectors needed shooting (or words to that effect)

Not picked for Olympics coz he got cramp in AAA trials. Bloody typical of our parochial attitude. Great marathon runner snubbed. I think I heard that Mo Farrah has to qualify.
