This is a classic bus I remember 2912 and when I used to record the drive on my phone at the time I used to sit in the middle at the back as that was the best position I loved it when it would hit the corners and the sound of the engine at the back with the vibration on idle and that wheezing sound when the gears would kick down in braking was fabulous the 4 speeders were fantastic the seats on these were comfy great video nice to know that I wasn’t the only one who loved these drives 😆👍🏾

I love this sound brings back lots of happy memories riding these on the PB timesaver routes as well as on the 963 many years ago. Have rode this beauty on a few Wythall trips, credit to the owner for keeping this beast from the scrap man & bringing her back to how she was back in 1986 but with a few more miles on the clock now. I enjoy the 4th gear whine as much as the 3rd gear whine myself. Long live 2912 great video of a great bus

Ah, that classic Metrobus sound, that made up so much of my youth. Especially that ffuu-WEEEEEE downshift when coming to a halt, and the seemingly never ending first gear with the rather smooth upshift (and then violent as hell further shifts), plus the shaky but still slightly whiny idle. Oddly soothing after a long and unpleasant day. Like resting in the lap of some enormous but friendly animal. Gotta say that one's sounding rather sickly however...

I love these old skool MCWs, especially in winter time it was nice and warm at the backseats by the engine.

Who'd have imagined 29 years after WW II Voith would release the DIWA range of transmissions that would go into a British bus?

21:12 TOP GEAR AT LAST

4:15 dammit man, do something to get it out of third, one way or the other!
@Squiz19716 жыл бұрын
4th gear only kicks in at 40mph & as most of the roads on the trip are 30mph only apart from the small section at 4:15 & the dual carriageway near the end. 2912 could only stay in 3rd for the majority of the trip

I know, it's more a thing of feeling the driver's frustration than anything else. A bit like my dad's old Xantia that would only kick into 4th (and thus lockup) at about 70km/h, if you were really feathering it, even though it wouldn't change down again until quite a bit lower, and had plenty of torque on hand... so every entry to a 40mph limit involved a quick excursion to just over 43mph before backing off again (or even a moment of running slower to make a gap behind the vehicle in front if they weren't going 40 or more, before speeding up briefly), just to stop the engine from revving so high.
The 1986 Waz the frist D plate West Midlands travel time saver the old 900 To Covertry plus the 952 Frm Cannock to Birmingham the good old days buses these fiber glass things of two day won’t last like the real leylands

I used to catch the 951 or 952 to Birmingham from Walsall, the 51s took way too long! I remember the colour change of these buses to blue, they still looked cool but the original silver was much better.
