Great video. It's always fun to see and read how the musical is different from history. I also love how you do it without making it seem like this evil thing. Art isn't history even when it's about history. It's based on history :) In 1800 Hamilton was not amused that his birth was used as "the subject of the most humiliating criticism". He did correct them, to say the least. Hinting that his parents were married even if his mother couldn't legally remarry after her divorce. Though no proof of a non-legal marriage has been found. Hamilton also wasn't the biggest fan of immigrants unless they bought land and opened a business. But he and Eliza did take in an Orphan girl named Fanny. And they were big-time supporters of Widows and orphans. Hamilton not only had a bio brother and an estranged half-brother, but he also moved in with the Stevens family. (Probably first as a servant and then as more). Edward Stevens and Ham were life long friends even if Stevens didn't make the musical cut. Even though it doesn't exactly get it right, the musical doesn't skip the Washington/Hamilton Fight. It's the song Meet me inside. Yorktown is considered the last major battle in the war. It is the last one Hamilton fought in. Lauren's little skirmish was pointless 😔 It was also likely General Green who wrote Hamilton about Lauren's death, not Lauren's dad. I like to say Hamilton was a better Lawyer if he didn't do the Perry Mason moment in the murder case. Because it used less legal argument and instead created a show. (There was also a 3rd defense attorney who was actually a defense attorney. Burr and Ham were more business and Constitutional type lawyers). Hamilton's legal legacy is larger than Burrs but that might not mean anything. Hamilton took on cases that were pretty consistent so his legal record builds and lasts. While Burr did case by case. He wasn't consistent but it was more about the individual person. Both have merit so not attacking either. Hamilton didn't ask Burr to help with the Federalist papers but he did ask Gouverneur Morris, who did turn down the opportunity. Gouverneur Morris is also a, basically, life long friend who didn't make the musical either. He is the penmen of the Constitution and was the orator at Hamilton's funeral! He was also one of the most anti-slavery of the founding fathers. Washington, Madison, Jefferson, Phillip Schyler, and Henry Laurens were all large slave owners. Burr, Hamilton, and Jay were all part of the NY Manumission society even though they owned or used slaves from time to time. NYC was a Slave community as much as the south was during the founding era. The musical definitely makes it seem otherwise. The Hamilton's also likely had indentured servants. Most of the founders (even young Jefferson) considered slavery evil and a blight on the Nations founding. They didn't know how to deal with human rights vs property rights. Property rights won. Even many in Manumission societies fighting for freedoms wanted slave owners to choose to free their slaves and not have the government intervene. Hence Manumission vs emancipation. They should have just been looking at people as people but then where would the free slaves go, west, or "back" to Africa? Slavery conversations were deep but in circles so little was done. 😔

Really cool video! That basicalls doesn't matter, but the musical does mention Hamilton's brotherin the opening number ("his brother was ready to beg, steal, borrow and barter")

I believe that was "the brother," referring to Hamilton as a brother, not talking about James Hamilton Jr. Interesting idea though!

I made a Coco video that was more controversial than I expected and made the mistake of reading the comments. Got really bummed out about KZbin. Also my interests lately are less listicle-friendly
