Excellent. As a writer and an improvisational musician, this really rings true. When I play the piano, it's exactly those preconceived notions of what I want to play or should be playing, or what level I should be playing at, that are then felt as a visceral slowing down or blockage of my improvisational flow and flexibility. When I sit down and simply connect with the keys and the sounds on a purely emotional level, that's when I most often find myself in the flow, and my nicest pieces come out. That aside, I came to your channel for insight on object relations theory, and I've found your short videos to be incredibly insightful and enlightening. Thanks so much for all the amazing work you do! 🙏

Fascinating. My two "rules" of writing (for myself) are Watch the movie and Just like in "real life," people show up for a reason. When a character shows up I know their backstory, what makes them tick, even if they are minor to the plot. As far as "watching the movie" is concerned, if you cannot see it, feel it, experience it with all of your senses, don't write it, or don't write that day. These "rules" have made writing pleasurable for me. I have spent my life in the movie business and read over a thousand scripts, and in only a handful have I felt that the writer experienced any pleasure in writing them. Oh: The belletristic elements come naturally if you're experiencing the pleasure of writing. No need to force or contrive them.

I like the phrase, "from the inside out." It begins on the inside, and flows into the outer world. As I tell Mei Ha, I don't know exactly what I'm going to write about...until I start writing. Buit once I start, there is an organic flow, there is a topic or theme--consciously created. But it starts with an idea. Mei Ha says I'm "sleeping" when I lie in bed in the morning for an hour after I'm no longer sleeping. But I'm priming my mind. Getting rid of the internal blocks (the Hitler inside of me, the persecutory object). Oh by the way, Susan you need more sleep.
