2 things in the early minutes of this interview stand out to me. When asked to compile his 5 favorite albums or songs, he couldn't really do it. Art is not a competition, it's an expression of your soul, and can't really be compared to anyone else. It's just personal expression. The other thing that struck me was his description of coming back from the beach with his parents and trying to imitate the sounds of the beach. To me, the way birds sing at sunrise is like a jazz choir, everybody chirping their own bit to make a whole chorus. Roger (JIm) McGuinn has said that all music is an attempt to make sense of the sounds we hear. In the classical period, music replicated the sounds of wind, waves, storms, and peaceful meadows of that period. In the 1800's you have train sounds. By the time of the 1930's and 40's, the clarinet sounds like car horns beeping as they go by, imitating the new transportation. Then in the fifties we had jets and airplanes and a whooshing sounds began to creep in. Now we have heavy metal and rap which emulates industrialisation and high energy urban society. So music is something musicians use to depict the sounds of their individual era. Ragtime with a jazz feel works well for Bill, and sounds great to my ears. Thanks for the interview.

I was likewise taken with both statements, but the "imitate the sounds of the beach" concept instantly made sense. Your response above explains why. So thank you.

I was invited into Feat’s dressing room years ago, sadly years after Lowell had passed away, & was too blown away to speak to Bill. Hung out with the amazing Richie Hayward for a couple of hours at the bar with my friend Alan Rogan (Pete Townshend’s Tech) after the gig though. Seems like a dream now. Both also passed away now.😢🎸✨

Interesting to hear that the greats like him and the not greats like me are influenced the same way by songs and artist we like for many different reasons. Little Feat rocks.

Hey this interview was just great; 48:39 Bill is just one hell of a great human being . So modest and can draw just incredible things out of his instrument and his facility is more than he will ever need. Brings out the best in everyone around him- can’t give the guy enough praise. He is one of the true “goats” of the business and influenced everybody worldwide. 💪🎸 🤟 🦶👣 🦶

Everybody was tight in the Feat, but Bill was probably the most solid of all of them. It's too bad that George didn't like his jazz fusion side, I love tracks like Day at the Dog Races

Me too, I get it , it may may as well be a different band. I bet Lowell felt left out in that its kinda hard to play slide in a jazz fusion context

One of the greatest keyboardists of all time however he should keep his comments about politics to himself he doesn't need to guide anyone regarding their decisions in politics

Musicians have feelings about politics. They should be open to comment on and even write about politics. I write songs about political issues as a part of life…….. relax, man!
