This tiny inductor will NEVER fail so let's install it deep inside the radio. Well, Peter has tossed that engineer's theory out the window. Thanks for the Saturday morning video, have a peaceful weekend.

Thank you for the peek inside. Very odd thing. I am so curious how it happened. The jack itself is made of plastic. Good video as always.

Interesting using a ferrite bead as a fuse. 🙂 Well two functions 1: Lowers emissions on the ground wire 2: Limits the DC current to less than 400mA Makes you wonder if there was enough RF in the shack to give a high ground current. 1K @ 100MHz may have enough impedance at HF to get hot when trying to block RF getting off the key wire to ground.

Peter, I would have left the faulty choke on the PCB and just wired a new choke near the jack connector directly to earth. This would have resolved the problem without touching the PCBs.

yeah you can do that if you are doing for you own..

Quite difficult to get at this coil. I believe the key cable has been "hot" with RF, causing enough current to flow to burn out this little SMD choke. I experienced a similar thing with a Yaesu FT757GXII, had a transistor in the KEY ground return which burned out. This was a much easier fix, though..

I agree. I have a Xiego G90 with the similar problem. [ my fault, Im sure. I was running another radio at the time] RF in the Ground Buss will lead to this. Dont Run 2 radios at once . :(

Inave made a small key breakout box which allows all key types to all radios.. inside I have wound the wires round a toroid.. also have a switchable capacitor for radio/key combinations that require it.. Hopefully this will alleviate any extraneous RF problems

I am curious, plus I am unsure how they work, but could it be that the operator plugged an electronic keyed into the rear jack? Do you think that might be the issue that lead to that filter burning out? Thank you for investing the time into making these videos. - Phil

I was going to ask the same thing. lol

Hi HBT ! This issue can occur when there's no radio frequency grounding at the station. The solution would be to use a Ferrite and run the CW key cable through it with several turns to isolate the RF feedback coming from the cable or the equipment's casing. Regards.. 73 - PY2NDB

Very interesting. I noticed that you are keying the xmiter with no 50 ohm load on the output.
@TRXLab Жыл бұрын
You can do that if BK is NOT engaged
@sorinmetea578 Жыл бұрын
hello. nice vid. operator has most likely grounding issues, in conjunction with using a qro and high swr on antenna / feeder system, or he is for some reason keying with a software that connects the pc to that input via a serial port / adapter, and the setup, in this case, has a current loop.
@TRXLab Жыл бұрын
yes definitely one possible explanation...

Hi Peter once again another repair video, peter you wonder what caused the componet to burn out Peter as you say that componet like acted like a fuse to protect some other parts of the circuit
