I grew up in Canada and was a Beaver Scout. This played well with my American friends.

Behind my house (Central Maine) there is a 37 acre, 12 foot deep pond that was created by beavers. They did pretty good for themselves.

Hochelaga is indeed a neighborhood of Montreal, east side. Lots of ladies of the night there so beaver is still quite plentiful.

Someone thought that Canadian beavers could do well in Argentina, and they were correct. But there not loved in Argentina.

I recall the story in a text book in school ( I'm Canadian). Natives would trade a stack of beaver pelts for a muzzle loader gun. Catch was, the pile of pelts had to be as high as the gun standing upright. Guess what, the guns that were traded were made extra long so it took more pelts to get a gun. As a native guy I used to work with would say, " mighty white of you".
