That is a balked landing. They can be pretty dangerous too, especially for the MD11.

Yep, in fact another FedEx MD-11 (FDX80) crashed after very similar circumstances at this very airport back in 2009.

@@CrazyForCooCooPuffs actually for a non stabilised approach which ended bumping. They did not managed it, did not go around, and so If we are talking about the same accident. Here it was a go around manouver nicely done

A balked Ldg is considered a go-around at any time (inc after touch down) with all engines running, Ldg gear down and Ldg flap selected. A go-around is done from any phase of the App/Ldg in any configuration.
One bounce, take it in stride, second bounce, TOGO!

One of my friends flies the MD for brown. He said it's a real hot rod compared to the Boeing planes. Said he loves the challenge of flying the plane.............dude is a sharp guy and great stick. He's the type of guy you need to fly a plane like that.

Yes, good thing for the go around otherwise that could have been very bad (similar to flights like FEDEX flight 80)
Excellent video! What I find interesting is that wing seems to dip from heavy pilot induced input. You can clearly see a lot of right deflection. Makes me wonder if this was all pilot induced....in other words, that right wing went down because the pilot made it do that. 🤷🏼♂️

On the second landing/approach the pilot has a lot of Right aileron and touches down on the right side rear landing gear which indicates the possibility of a right cross wind also the wind sock points to a right cross wind. The pilot on the first approach might have experienced a shift in winds at touch down or wind shear causing the “bounced landing” followed by the go around.
MD-11's are notoriously hard to land, they tend to float.

I believe it's a bit more complex. Their horizontal stabilizers are apparently too small and they are tricky if they bounce. This was a pretty severe bounce, but the pilots were ready for GA. It would have been a different story had the undercart collapsed.

The MD11s are notorious for being unstable during the landing phase.
Question: the plane was coming down normally, and just before touchdown the right wing came down causing the bounce, was it because of wind or the pilots made a mistake????

It looked like he might be going to make an express delivery. Come in for a landing and on the first bounce open the cargo door. Second bounce the packages fall out. Gun the engines, close the cargo door and continue on to the next destination.

No they use all three. They prob slammed the throttles forward which can cause a little smoke. Think of a car running real rich momentarily. A little black smoke appears.

A while ago while operating early one morning into Sydney, Australia the Runways in use were 34 L & R wth about 15 Kts of cross wind from the west. 15Kts cross wind is not much. They usually switch to 25/07 over20 kts cross wind. An FedEx MD 11 requested RWY 25. May have had an MEL item but most likely a little jaded after flying all night and wanted to stack the odds in their favour. I’ve heard that compared to the DC10 the MD11 is a bit of a pig.
