Whole things is actually based on the British War of the Roses(1455 - 1487), which was a dispute between several noble houses(Tudor Lancaster and York ) that started with an attempted revolution of sorts. Lancaster was basically the Lanisters, Tudor the Baratheons and York the Tyrells. Throw in the support from Scotland as The North and France as Darnerys , and you basically have the whole story right there minus the white walkers and dragons.

@y_fam_goeglyd4 жыл бұрын
It would have been nice to hear about each family still going strong. Though why he was apparently surprised by the Belgian royals being related to the UK's, I don't know. Victoria had so many kids and by default (because back then, it was like this), grandkids, that she had them married off to almost every royal house in Europe. It's one of the reasons QEII is seen to be one of the most senior royals in Europe, and it's not because of her age. She's a direct descendant from Victoria (including the whole sitting on the same throne thing, which gives her a boost up the list) and those related via Victoria's other kids are heirs to that throne but so far down the list it would take some major disaster for one to take over. So she's officially more senior to them in that respect. Prince Philip (aka Phil the Greek as he used to be more commonly known here) is an heir to his wife's throne in his own right (not at all by marriage) but a long way down the list. If the Greeks restored their monarchy, he - or more likely Charles et al - would be heirs, and reasonably high on the list iirc. And of course, he's a member of Danish royalty (not as many 6'+ blond, blue-eyed Greeks as there are Danes!) What's uncanny is Elizabeth's cousin, the Duke of Kent. He is so much like Tsar Nicholas that it's freaky. They used his - and Phil's - DNA to help identify the corpses at Ekaterinburg.
@isabellaangeline21752 жыл бұрын
@@y_fam_goeglyd All European royals are related because of their insistence on inbreeding. Sadly, they’ve hidden away several family members whilst still children because of severe birth defects. Queen Elizabeth II has two first cousins who were institutionalized and then declared legally dead, even tho they were still very much alive, because of something they couldn’t help. The “royals” are an extremely cruel lot.

The image used for Dom Pedro I of Portugal is, actually, Dom Pedro I of Brazil (who proclaimed the country's independence from Portugal, but, when his father died, he returned to Portugal and became Dom Pedro IV of Portugal leaving his son in Brazil as Dom Pedro II of Brazil). Dom Pedro I of Portugal was the country's king in the 14th century.

Joanna (Juana la Loca) did not exactly refuse to bury her husband, she just did not want to do it right away: she toured around Castille to find the most beautiful and special place in the kingdom and then bury him there. The problem was that it took her several months, and also that it happened during the summer, and maybe that she made the body travel along with her... that woman was great.

By the way, thank you for not bending to pressure and referring to the 17th century as "the 1600s." There aren't a lot of nitpicky grammarian hills I'm willing to die on, but that's one of them (mostly because there's potential for genuine confusion between decades and centuries if it catches on).
@wolfsbane19917 жыл бұрын
Wait, please explain. The 17th century did not take place in the 1600s? I must have misunderstood something..
@Sackofbooks7 жыл бұрын
The 17th century was a period of 100 years that lasted from the year 1600 to the year 1699. The 1600s was a decade that lasted from 1600 to 1609. Some foolish people, however, have started using "the 1600s" as a synonym for "the 17th century" (or "the 1700s" as a synonym for "the 18th century", or "the 1800s" as a synonym for "the 19th century", etc.), which runs the risk of confusing references to decades with references to centuries.

The current Dutch monarch used to be in the British line of succession as well -- but then lost it by marrying a Roman Catholic person (unlike the Dutch, the Brits weren't impressed by the bride claiming to have switched religion). Which means that the current Dutch monarch no longer is in the line of succession, but his mother and his daughters are. The law has changed since, and marrying a Roman Catholic no longer disqualifies you from taking your place on the throne, but that law was changed after his marriage.

The image of "Pedro the 1st of Portugal" you have is actually of "Pedro the 1st of Brazil". Two different people. Pedro I of Brazil, after leaving the country to go [back] to his native Portugal (he was the heir to João VI, and became Brazil's ruler after the independence in 1822) took the throne as Pedro IV (he was the 1st of Brazil, but the 4th of Portugal). Portugal's Pedro I was the king of Portugal 500 years [in the 14th century] before the other Pedro [in the 19th century].
