295 - Laying a Subbuteo Pitch

I'm using file clips like the ones available at any office supply store to secure my field. I'm making my pitch, indeed my entire table football setup, entirely from scratch and using repurposed or found materials. One of these is a yard of craft felt, 72 inches wide, with a nice Kelly Green colour and a good tuft to it. I'd had it folded up for years and the first time I unrolled it the fabric was full of creases. But with those clips, I was able to stretch it out good and tight on my board and all the creases have flattened out so the surface will be pretty much dead even. Next step is painting the field lines onto the felt. The playing area will be slightly smaller than a standard Subbuteo pitch which is a concession to storage issues, but there is ample area for a full eleven-a-side match.

off topic question, what are the house rules regarding your solo keeper movement, is he allowed anywhere in the box or only the 6 yard box? just notice alot of you matches is never really " rushes out" and gets near the 18 line. would love to know your thoughts, will help me decide my own solo rules too.

Never had any issues with my pitches moving on my custom-made oak table-top. Firstly had a astro-pitch as my 'underlay' with a cotton pitch on top. But after a few months of playing astro-pitch began 'bubbling' and caused bumps ... Now trying a cotton pitch on top of a cotton pitch.. What pitch are you using? Looks really good.

I bought a plywood base and that was too thin, so replaced it with a custom size piece of max thickness MDF. I noticed that’s starting to warp in the middle, probably because it’s sitting another table top turned upside down so there is only support on the edges of the MDF. Any tips for any treatment of MDF to stop the warping? Thanks in advance.

Although mine is MDF, I probably wouldn't use MDF if it was only supported on the edges. That being said, you could try batoning it underneath. Effectively build a decking type framework.
