29th Infantry Division at Jülich, Germany; February 23-24, 1945

Reinforcements and supporting units of the 29th Infantry Division cross the Roer/Rur River to support the push through Jülich. 29ers also inspect what is left of the "Unteroffizierschule" (NCO school), which was originally founded in 1860. This footage was likely shot on the second day of the assault. By the end of the day on February 24, the 116th Infantry Regiment was moving from Aldenhoven to relieve the 175th Infantry.

Great footage! Interesting tidbits throughout, like the officer munching on a D-bar as he tours the NCO school. Also footage shows tanks from the 747th Tank Battalion, which was attached to the 29th since the Normandy landings. The casualty in the beginning appeared to by an American GI based on the web gear he was wearing. Poor guy paid the ultimate sacrifice. I really enjoy all of your videos. My grandfather served in the 331st Infantry, 83rd Division, so if you run across any footage from them I'd love to see it!

My grandpa was in the USAs 82nd A/B Div. .He was a medic with rank of cspt. , and was allowed to carry a weapon , which he did a 30/cal carbine. Grandpa fought in Normandy . He jumped on 6/6/44 DDAY. He was in all the big battles from.the bloody hedgegrow fighting , to Hollands Operation Market Garden ( a near calamity planned by Field Marshall General Montgomery ) , and wounded in the Ardennes ( Battle of The Bulge 12/16/44 , when it started, though he arrived there a day or 2 later right b-4 he was wounded.) Grandpa didn't talk Bout the war . It took years to get this out of him _ for it brought memories of a bad time period .

The "Thunderbolt " I.D. I'm sort of sure . Did your grandpa mention how the 83rd did a nightmarish stint in "The Green Hell of The Huertgen " Forrest's ? The 83rd saw plenty of casualties in the ETO .

My father in law Sgt Dee L Flynn 29th Division wounded in Julich. Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal, European Campaign medal with 4 campaign stars, WW 2 Victory Medal. Lived a long and successful life after the war.

Is this what was considered part of Rhineland campaign my grandpa was 29th 116th company F was in England a year landed on Omaha went all the way to Germany private 1st class 2 bronze stars Purple Heart erua campaign medal bronze arrow head I think that was for the landing

Yes, these Roer Crossing operations were considered part of the Rhineland Campaign. This was also part of the push for the "Cologne Plain." The Central Europe campaign begins in March 1945.

My Uncle was killed 12/17/44 . He also was in the 29th 116th. Of course can't find any records on him.
