Fun fact; the apds_fs_long kinetic secondary shatter preset (spall preset) does not ever look at shell mass for damage, so it's wholly irrelevant to factor into determining shell post-penetration; this preset cares only for your residual penetration, meaning that generally, more penetration = more damage.

@@ryanberry_ it can get quite esoteric, and damage itself can also be very contingent on the nature of shot, adding noise which obfuscates true damage, but for the apds_fs_long preset specifically, the max and min rolls are bounded at 50mm residual and 400mm residual respectively, meaning all projectiles with this preset will be doing the same damage if their leftover penetration value after passing through the armor of a target is either 50mm or less, or 400mm or more. Damage variance would occur when projectiles with the apds_fs_long preset are within that 50-400mm range, and why more penetration leads to more consistent damage for this preset. There are also presets which do care about shell mass in addition to residual penetration (all projectile kinetic secondary shatter presets care for residual, even HEAT and HESH cumulative secondary shatters), such as apds, apds_fs_25-76mm, and ap_large_caliber; these achieve this property through the addition of an armorMassToShatterCount parameter, and they basically set a mass range and a corresponding raw fragment count range, interestingly, this also means that instead of raw fragment counts per fragmentation segment, they applied countPortion value instead, which is more of a coefficient.

I like the side composites. It makes the sides a lot harder for autocannons to pen. Rounds with ~100mm of pen cut through the sides of a leo 2 like butter, but the parts with composites are impossible for them to pen. OFC autocannons with more pen go through no problem, but its saved my life more than enough times vs bmps or spaa

It's basically 2A4 turret. The wedge applique armor does nothing against APFSDS. It won't be behaving same armor as 2A5 and later tanks. Those wedges aren't different from later Leo2s, but later Leos had different turret design with much thicker composite armor and weak spot behind IR sensor removed. Leo 2 PL in this sense is still the best Leo, because it's addon armor isn't just some applique nonsense, but legit composite layers.

These autoloaders are acting as a 1 time use spall shield. Getting ammo shots on T series tanks has massively gone down. It’s stupid yeah they may not be able to fire back but that leave you having to follow up and potentially not securing the kill and getting your self killed or third party’d. it’s a buff and a nerf at the same time 🫠 fuel tank shot are the play I think now.

26:20 : this. I keep saying : if I was half as bad at my job as some Gaijin map designers are at theirs, I'd have been rightfully fired a long time ago for endangering the public. There are multiple maps with such basic fixes to the spawn placement and simple general topography/gameplay flow fixes to bring them from being hot garbage to potentially some of the best (looking at you Fire Arc) you'd think the game came out 3 months ago. Then there are collisions, destructible/indestructible objects and their coherence from a map to another, hitboxes, whatnot. War Thunder will always have many meme-worthy issues but map design on the ground is really the absolute worst aspect of the game as of this moment. Other than that, GGs, discovered your channel a couple days ago. Good plays, concise info, quick thinking and strats, smooth radioman voice. I'm a decent player but I specifically need to work on some of my map positionning and you've got that nailed down better than me. Better timing offense/defense on tighter matches to avoid being out of position as well.
