I actually found the Surface Effector method really good if you're not hard setting your characters velocity... Like I am 😅

Yes, I think you want to use Area Effector 2D. This example by unity shows how it would work (kzbin.info/www/bejne/npi4opupdt96jdU) and in your case the objects simply don't use gravity.

Great video, what program did you use to animate the belt? Did you have to then use unity to re animate it?

Aseprite, which will export a sprite-sheet. And then you can put the sprite-sheet frames into Unity, with minimal effort.
