I just had a similar realization. I've been writing software for over 25 years at this point, and yet every time I get to write just the simplest things in C, I fall deeply in love with the simplicity of the language. Nothing else seems to compare. Raylib is an amazing library and I can't wait to see what you do with it. Don't try to go overly generic and make an "engine" first. Just focus on building your game. Once you're done and start to work on your next project, then start looking for things you can borrow from the previous version. I've made the mistake of starting a game project, then spending all of my time making "the engine" too many times. My only successes have been from just building the thing... and then using the next project to make the underlying structure reusable.

That Unity "Not this time" for some reason made me laugh out loud rethinking of all the Unity drama. Another great video!

Love your work man. A word of warning tho based on my own experiences and from watching other game dev's; make sure you don't get too hyperfocused on the technical aspects and forget that the game is meant to be... well ... fun. I know I've fallen into the trap of making tools and systems that I really loved making, but the actual gameplay and game loop was neglected and the game itself wasn't fun. Another example is Deynum Studio (another youtube gamedev) that got very focused on the look and art style of his game, but the actual gameplay is not enjoyable at all. That being said it seems you have a fun concept to start and I'm sure Daisy Train will be a success 😊

Thanks for the words - it's a dangerous business making a game.. if you don't keep your feet, you never know where you'll end up... 👀

woaw your videos keep getting better, if i had to give any advice, i would put the episode number at the end of the title or in the description so here it would be: "CHOOSING THE NEW GAME PROJECT... FINALLY - EP 10" as for new viewers it can be a bit daunting to click on a video if we haven't watched all previous episodes. Just food for thought ;)

Thanks!! Yes that's a good idea...

Idk if that would be the best idea for the algorithm having numbered videos means only the first one will be clicked making it more generalized would be better you could say the video it in the video just not the title or thumbnail @rockersgamestudio

yeah interesting - I'll try removing the ep numbers from the title... might even try a slightly different format for 2025! Thanks for the feedback

I loved the channel, it's refreshing compared to other channels with this type of content. I have a request from someone who wants to become a game developer. Could you make a video talking only about the tools you use to organize, draw, animate, etc., the resources for your projects?

Glad you go for C - I was a bit scared for a sec as you mentioned Unreal Engine as I really liked your low level previous dev logs. I can 100% relate to your experience with these pre-made engines and the comparison to low level gamedev. I'm lookin forward to see you make Daisy trains! 😍
