The RB26DETT engine is a 2.6 L Inline-6 engine manufactured by Nissan, for use in the 1989-2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R. The RB26DETT engine block is made from cast iron, while the cylinder head is made from aluminium. The cylinder head contains 24 valves (4 valves per cylinder), and uses a dual overhead camshaft setup. The intake of the RB26DETT varies from other RB-series motors in that it has six individual throttle bodies (3 sets of 2 throttle assemblies that are siamesed together) instead of a single throttle body. The engine also uses a parallel twin-turbo system, using a pair of T25-type ceramic turbochargers set by the wastegates to limit boost pressure to 10 psi, although the Skyline GT-R has a built in boost restrictor to keep boost under 14 psi.

The first 2.6 L RB26DETT was rated by Nissan at around 276 HP (206 kW) @ 6800 rpm and 260 lb·ft (353 Nm) @ 4400 rpm. By the end of production, power levels had gone up to around 276 HP (206 kW) @ 6800 rpm and 289 lb·ft (392 Nm) @ 4400 rpm, not only because of developments and modifications to the engine, but also because of the "Gentlemen's Agreement" made between Japanese automakers to limit the "advertised" horsepower of any vehicle to 280 PS (276 HP). The RB26 is widely known and became quite popular for its strength and power potential, making it a modification friendly platform for tuners and aftermarket modifications in general. It is common for modified engines to achieve outputs of 500 hp+. Some of the most extreme and extensive modifications done to the RB26 have resulted in figures of 1000 hp+, even up to 1,638 hp.
The 2JZ-GTE is an inline-layout, six-cylinder, belt-driven dual-overhead camshaft, air-intercooled, twin-turbocharged, cast-iron block, aluminium cylinder headed engine designed and manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation that was produced from 1991 until 2002 in Japan. Development and evolution of the engine was, principally, a response to Nissan's relatively new and then-successful RB26DETT engine which had achieved palpable success in FIA Group A and Group N touring car championships.
For all road car applications, two gearboxes were available for the engine:
Toyota A341E 4-speed automatic
Toyota V160 and V161 6-speed manual (jointly developed with Getrag as the Type 233)
The 2JZ-GTE originally powered the Toyota Aristo V (JZS147) in 1991 before becoming Toyota's flagship performance engine in the Toyota Supra RZ (JZA80). Its mechanical basis was the existing 2JZ-GE, but differed in its use of sequential twin turbochargers and an air-to-air side-mounted intercooler. The engine block, crankshaft, and connecting rods of the Supra's 2JZ-GE and 2JZ-GTE are the same, with notable differences being that the 2JZ-GTE has recessed piston tops (giving a lower compression ratio), oil spray nozzles to aid in cooling the pistons and a different head (redesigned inlet/exhaust ports, cams and valves). However, other 2JZ-GE equipped models (Aristo, Altezza, Mark II) share a different part number for connecting rods. Toyota's VVT-i variable valve timing technology was added to the engine beginning in September 1997, hence it phased out the original engine. Consequently, maximum torque and horsepower was raised for engines selling in all markets.

They sound pretty similar both being inline 6 and that's why they are the godly creations of humankind. Literally. Every time the RPMs go up I get a huge joyful smile. Only a few things in a whole life can reach that level of happiness.

I bought an Aristo 2JZ-GTE with tranny and ECU for my daily driven GS300. Every replacement maintenance part needed for that engine already done. Waiting on Garrett turbo, intercooler and pipping to install. Yes, keeping AC. Just replaced everything brand new Toyota parts fresh from dealer. Want it tuned to 275 - 300 to the wheels at least. I love that stu-stu-stu bov sound. Oh Supra LSD diff coming so I can swap with GS. And Supra brake calipers already swapped. Everything else (suspension, exhaust, etc are all stock. My sleeper.

RB26DETT is a high reving engine compared to the 2JZGTE. Both are great engines to build lots of power from. It also all depending on other variables like tuning, car weight, tires, suspension, type of turbo, etc.

@@chaddwarika5171 No it doesnt. And it doesnt work like that either. Displacement has nothing to do with revving. The RB will do 8800rpm. A 2jz wont

@@boikanyoonneng9170 actually displacement usually does. It’s typically harder for a higher displacement engine to rev high and requires some advanced engineering. Why do you think more high revving Honda engines are so small and you don’t often see cars with larger engines revving so high

​@chaddwarika5171 the RB and 2j both have a bore of 86mm but have different length strokes of 73.7 and 86mm respectively. In short the 2j makes its higher displacement by having a longer stroke and longer strokes can't rev as high as shorter strokes.

The RB26 has a higher pitch scream which I like, but its 2JZ all the way. The RB has oiling issues and requires more supporting mods to be as powerful and robust when chasing numbers. That said I like the RB, but its harder and more expensive to source parts for. Toyota was a little more generous and sold the JZ everywhere.

2jz and rb26 both are cool engine to have, but i think r34 has slightly cooler body style, more straight to the point (mean look) but the supra body style look more like a beast trying to look pretty instead of being mean..

Steez R47 both of them are good engines, but 2jz has a bigger displacement plus a longer stroke than the rb. So the 2jz can get more hp and torqe than the datsun!

Saw a video of a guy who was running sequential gearbox on R34, oh man that sweet sound of RB26 and whines of gearbox was a dream tunes of a crazy gearhead guys!! It's almost impossible to choose from RB26 and 2JZ GTE, heard some good melodies from 2jz heart cars that if a guy closes his eyes,he will say it's Rb26.. in my book both deserves respect and love..done lean towards 2jz just coz it's powerful, don't forget rb26 offers lots of mods starting from throttle body!

A product of power is rpm. The r34 is a series 2 rb26, the N1 block is forged, better materials means stronger block. Toyota in the 90s removed 2jz from motorsport against the rb26 because quote "reliability and power cant be matched of the rb26". Not my opinion, facts.

Not quite buddy... the Supra were running at the JGTC Japan GT championship back in the days. Rules were that the engine size would not exceed 2600 cc. So, the Supra being a 3.000 cc (rumors back then were that an unlimited class or a 3.000cc limit would be a new rule,but never happened , that's why the mk4 Supra was given the 2JZ 3.0 L.) engine it competed with extra weight as a penalty. With the extra weight and not being an all wheel drive vehicle it was no match to the GTR, so Toyota ditched the Supra from the Grand touring championship and in general motorsports except some casual events. The RB26 had many versions of it, mainly focused and built for motorsports GT championship thus the N1 fully forged race block. The GTR R34 which was the last Godzilla came up in 1999 vs the last generation of Supra (mk4). Stock Supra 2JZ vs Stock Skyline RB26, or BPU vs BPU, or upgraded turbos on both 600hp vs 600hp would have same reliability for both. After the 700hp mark the JZ Toyota engine is by it's own league. Can take more power, oem stock closed long block limit is around 800hp, the block is around 1000 with just a pair of cams. The iron oem JZ block is good for 2500 whp as E.Kanoo's Supra holds the record on time also being the fastest import on 10.5 tire at 5.9 sec. the 1/4 mile. Nothing can come close to the 2jz as in RAW max POWER capabilities and reliability! On the RB oil pump issues start at around the 650 hp mark.... just saying. Both are the best engines ever made from Japan though!

Except the r34 GTR moved all the electronics to the boot for weight distribution, had massive chassis upgrade, on board feedback, a 100-0 braking time of 2.5s, rwd switching to awd depending on traction, adjustable wing, carbon fibre bonnet, splitter and air diffuser and 0-100 time a full second quicker than the supra (5.6 supra vs 4.6s GTR), really the supra is more comparable to a r32, america will soon realise this.
