Kudos to whoever chose this song to end the DW movie. I was crying my eyes out! Michael Hurley has always been the greatest and most original!

Here's the FULL LYRICS to this version of Hog of the Foresaken including all four verses. I never heard this song with the final fourth verse in I and I needed to find out exactly what is being sang there. Decided to share since I couldn't find It here on KZbin. And the Hog of the Forsaken got no reason to cry, He got to chew the angels fallin' from on hiiigh, He ain't waitin' for no answers, bakin' woeful pie, Pie of eyesight, pie boot-black, oh that pie, The pie of by-and-by. And the Hog of the Forsaken he ain't like you and I, With bones always breakin' and no place to go an' lie, He's in the box so dark and wet, he got so much time, He ain't even worried yet, the Hog of the Forsaken, He is the Pork of Crime. And the Hog of the Forsaken, he'll leave you one more chance, Which, if you won't be takin' he'll leave it for the ants, He sings out in the wilderness, he sings of friend and foe, He sings of these and those times as well as the times to go. And the Hog of the Forsaken he swims out into the sea, Finds the alligator gar chase the leapin' mullet, And chokes the water hyacinth flowin' to the sea, The Hog of the Forsaken, he is the hog for me! He chokes the water hyacinth flowin' to the sea, The Hog of the Forsaken, he is the hog for me! (yeah baby, that's right)

I love Deadwood so much, that I watch all 3 seasons, and then once I finish, I just start back over. I haven't watched ANYTHING else, for the past 4 to 6 months. I think because the dialogue is hard to understand, and because I'm practically obsessed with that time period, it just never gets old. Really sucks that there's only 3 seasons. Really wish they'd do a spin-off of some kind. I know David Milch has Alzheimers, but I'm sure they could get his approval, or his wife's approval. Pretty sure other people assisted him at times, when it came to writing episodes of Deadwood. Either way, there's gotta be SOMEONE out there, who could pull off writing similar dialogue. It's just too damn good of a world, and characters to forget about.

This fabulous song from this wonderful Lp was around long before the contemporary TV series 'Deadwood' .. however it's fantastic to see Snock's uniquely-appealing 1970s song having been long-due recognition via this 'Gold Rush' latter-day Western Series. Newcomers to SNOCK & his catchy musical 'oddball' style should hunt this awesome LP "long Journey" down in its entirety .. 1st class music.

For this album, Allmusic.com lists two violin players and one player of both violin and fiddle, but doesn't say which tracks they play on: Hurley, Stampfel, and Elvin Woods. Is there any other album in existence that lists both violin and fiddle players, and mentions that someone plays both? Very Hurleyesque, if you ask me.

@andpyramids No, Sir .. please don't misconstrue .. my comment was genuinely intended as the most genuine & sincere compliment. I'm a Michael Hurley hardcore fan from way. way back. His wonderful music should in my opinion have received long-overdue recognition via incorporation in Western TV Series like DEADWOOD long before now. DEADWOOD is a first-class series .. matter of fact I've purchased the DVD Series for home-based entertainment. Cheers from Australia !!

Well, "woeful pie, pie of eyesight pie blue-black, the pie of bye and bye" sounds like getting a black eye from life and experience, to me. So it sounds like it's about having a joyful attitude, even if you don't have money, looks, or status. It's also vague enough that people can come up with their own interpretations, purposely, I think. Like Alice in Wonderland, the game being played is "if I say this and act like that, then who am I?" So, like other good art, it becomes an object of contemplation.

Isn't it "pork of CRYING"? When you're "woeful" and "forsaken" you cry, right?
@eliezerberry8 жыл бұрын
No. It's "crime." Look at some of the other words. He's "got no reason to cry," "he ain't waitin' for no answer," and "he ain't even worried yet." In other words, he doesn't care if this is hell. It's "crime," all right
