JB91710 If you look a line was in the building when the video started. If you have any experience in fire attack then you should know what it takes to do the things that have you be done before you enter the building. In a perfect world they would be on scene before the fire started however it’s not a perfect world. You should stop by a firehouse and ask about fire attack you would find it interesting. The other thing is for you to try out for the job.
@JB91710

David Let me stop you right there. 98% of America's fire Players couldn't carry my hose. You stop the first engine, activate the pump and blast that room with the Deck Gun for 3 seconds and extension is history. They couldn't pull up there pants in that time. At the very least, you hit the room with a booster line or reconnect but you Get The Threat under control ASAP!

I use to live in Spokane back in 2008 and I barely remember this building and the surprising thing is how many times I use to walk by it. If I remember correctly the front doors are on the pine st side. I tell you Spokane FD did one hell of a job putting that fire out quickly. I occasionally think about Spokane, I love the city and it situations were a little different and I had some money, I think I would go back in a heartbeat.

Let’s learn. This appears to be a “good knock down”. Water appears to be on the fire at 2:30 of this video. We don’t know the arrival time for this, but there is at least a 2:30 delay in getting water on the fire. In this incident, what if the engine parked in front, flowed water from their deck gun for 10-30 seconds, while the interior line was being stretched? The bulk of the fire would’ve been knocked down (bummer for the nozzle man), resulting in less fire, smoke and possibly water damage; along with less manpower; along with less time on scene. Note: the 2nd engine quickly established a water supply to the first engine. What are your thoughts?

A strong aggressive interior attack did the job again in a fast manner..........real fire experience again overrules the urge to initiate an exterior attack when unnecessary......
@FromGamingwithLove0456
@FromGamingwithLove0456 5 жыл бұрын
What "urge" is it where a fire is hit hard from outside prior to conducting offensive operations. Transitional attacks are entirely valid and in a case where the fire has self vented it's stupid not to do it while waiting for sufficient resources to conduct an offensive attack. In this case the guys actually took it down reasonably quickly so my comment about it being "stupid" isn't pointed at this example- but anyone who is going to suggest that exterior attack is some unnecessary "urge" is a fucking moron.

Eno BINGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@engine2truck6
@engine2truck6 5 жыл бұрын
@@FromGamingwithLove0456 The "urge" is referring to the fact that flames are a distraction as most of the combustion and the seat of the fire are INSIDE. The flames blasting out of the window are like leaves of a weed, and it is better to strike at the root if possible. The "urge" to WASTE TIME attacking a few "leaves" should be overruled by using valuable time and resources to MAKE ENTRY with an aggressive interior attack. Also, victims may be inside and reaching the survivable victims often occurs by the nozzle team as they advance on the fire. People are more likely killed by toxic atmosphere which remains after the flames are knocked down (as by an exterior fight). Also, as anyone who has ACTUALLY been on the nozzle (as you probably have Eno) understands that while hitting a fire from the outside does not technically "push" combustion, the mechanical effects of water stream and the pressurizing effects of steam formation cause the toxic products and heat to bank down on the firefighters - and any victims. Conditions for those inside get temporarily WORSE. A Chauffer should be helping flake the preconnect near the street and charging the pre connect, not messing with a deck gun. Nozzle should enter before the line is charged (seen it done 100s of times) and be masked up ready to advance when the line is charged from the TANK. Charlie is not a Fn moron: he is CORRECT. Transitional attacks are rarely the best way. In most cases, a nozzle man should not be waiting outside for the line to be charged. Waiting outside in order for water and to hit it from the outside is certainly a WASTE OF TIME in a truly aggressive interior attack. Did it for 25 years mostly at companies with 200-300 structure fires annually. Guys get hurt in OVERHAUL more than from an aggressive interior attack.

You mean you would have committed a BA crew to an internal attack just using tank supply???? You think that's could practice for a building so heavily involved? I beg to differ as that would be bad practice and potentially lethal. Not to mention poor BA procedure with no BA control and two emergency crew. Are you talking as an experienced urban or city firefighter or a rural volunteer rookie as that's what you sound like?
@engine2truck6
@engine2truck6 5 жыл бұрын
@@Biffo1262 Tim is right. It was pretty good job, but may have been quicker. (It's always easy when you're commenting from the stands lol) I was a nozzle man in New York (Rochester) for 25 years. We ran four on a pumper. Once the Engine came to a stop, the Officer and Nozzleman would enter this kind of incident IMMEDIATELY - before the line was even charged. The line would be charged with the 500 gal tank supply ( we NEVER wasted time bleeding the attack line its TOTALLY unnecessary) and we would be hitting it before there was any hydrant made. Did it 100s of times that way. Didn't die. Saved some people. I agree with Tim, and I cant STAND that Aussie accent! haha

I agree there is a lot to admire in this video. Great fireground hustle by their firefighters, rapid access to and knockdown of the fire, etc. However, I wonder where Spokane Fire stands as it pertains to the "New Science" of flow path management and the related studies on transitional fire attack involving a quick knock on the fire from the outside with a straight stream followed by a rapid interior effort. Even though this fire was very well handled and Spokane Fire did a great job, it would have been a great fire to practice the transitional concept.
@engine2truck6
@engine2truck6 5 жыл бұрын
Transitional attack is usually a waste of time, or the result of wasting time, or the lack of confidence an courage which wastes time. Sometimes it is a good move, but in this case, it would have been a waste of time.

Anthony Sampson It’s when you hit the fire initially from the exterior while crews are preparing to go inside.
@ffjsb
@ffjsb 5 жыл бұрын
Anthony, that's when you hit it from the outside to knock down the fire and cause it to "reset". It slows the fire growth as you go inside to attack the fire. It's especially useful on a fire like this where much of the fire is on the upper floor and you may have difficulty stretching the line up the stairs. It also cools the environment somewhat and makes it a bit safer. You just hit it for about 30 seconds, then go interior.

Leave that book on the shelf and just Get The Job Done! Vertical Venting is a tactic performed by childish fire players from a Mickey Mouse department. You vent a window at the fire room and the pressure has a direct route out. Thinking a structure can be turned into a chimney is Ridiculous at best. Mom sure would be dead doing it your way. Here I am drawn back to this video by one of the world's losers. Since I'm here, I'll give you all another wake up call to what fire fighting is all about. 1. Those flames are the enemy. They are threatening the structure and everyone in it. 2. The fastest and safest way to stop this threat is the correct and best way. 3. 0:14 Do you see that devise behind the cab? It is the Deck Gun! It is connected directly to at least 500 gallons of onboard water. 4. You stop under that window, activate the pump and hit that window for 5 seconds and the fire is 90% out. 5. Your mother is laying on the floor in the hallway outside that room. 1600 degrees of a roasting inferno are radiating heat on her. Do you want them to Stop The Threat my way, or the way these guys did it?
