Love it!! I’ve learned to ALWAYS show the oldest versions first. You skip/fast-forward parts that don’t work with your family. It’s a great time to discuss the past. How the movie was made. Then watch the newest one. They will have an appreciation for the movies. They saw the cover for 2006 Charlotte’s Web and wanted that one first. I was very adamant about the 1976 one. I told them it’s a privilege to watch both movies and compare how the book and both movies were written. Love this journey for you. Enjoy the literature life with your babies. ❤

Thank you!! 🥰 I think I’m more excited than my girls at this point but we read out first chapter of Little Women today and they loved it as well as the lap book activities! This bodes well for a very fun literature heavy year! 🥰

I watched the 3 episode PBS Little Women series with my first grade daughter this past year. Totally appropriate and free on Prime.

Thanks for links. I found a free lapbook from homeschool share for wizard of oz and we just started reading that over the summer. Good luck with all the book list.

That’s great! I like Homeschool share because they do offer quite a few of their lap books for free and those that’s aren’t free are very reasonably priced! 🥰

What a delightful year of literature! I’m very interested to hear your progress through these, how your girls like them, and how y’all like the lit guides.

🥰🥰 thanks for watching girl! I can’t wait to read it with them, just might be doing some extra cuddling while we read at the end!

all the classic books i have read as an adult have been abridged versions. i have read only the part of little women when they were girls. techincally they were two seperate books. love the movie from the 90s. got the audio book from the library for my 13 year old she was super excited and listened to many chapters but gave up because it was too long

We loved the trumpet and the swan. Just read it with my 7,6, and 4 year old. They really liked it! I personally didn’t but they liked it haha. I don’t know when to start Harry Potter! I don’t think my kiddos are ready for it yet…I really want it to hit them when we read it so its killing me to wait but I’m holding out. Im excited to see how Harry Potter goes for you guys so looking forward to how that goes for you!

Lol I hope my girls like it too! I also struggled with when to introduce the first Harry Potter book. Because I’m ready to do them all if they are 😂, but it finally hit me this past month that my youngest (turning 5 in August) was finally sitting for and understanding chapter read alouds (we have been reading the Zoey and sassafras series). I’m hoping that another 6 months (since we will do it in December) will help her concentration even more. I’m also totally ok going slower than the Lit unit suggests and worse case we can repeat it the next year. The girls have already watched the movie too which should help them follow along🤞I’ll keep you posted on how it goes!!

Great video and great picks!! Always love a book haul!! 😍 Have you pre-read any of the Classic Starts? I’ve always seen them and have never tried them!! I was debating scheduling some as readers for my 10yo. Too many good books out there and not enough time!! 🤪 I also wanted to mention that Charlotte’s Web and House at Pooh Corner is scheduled in BYL Level 1. Those don’t tie into the history at all, so it doesn’t really matter to leave them out if you wanted to read them now. Just wanted to give a heads up since I’m planning to do Level 1 this year and saw those on the schedule!! I’m so excited to following along- it looks like you have a BEAUTIFUL year planned!! ❤
@MaryBarfield6 ай бұрын
Thank you!! I’m glad you enjoyed the haul!! I started pre-reading secret garden and I think it’s really well done! I would definitely assign it to my current almost 7 year old when she’s a little older as an independent reader (it would be a stretch for her to read it on her own right now). And thank you for the heads up! 🥰 I saw those two were on the BYL lvl 1 list, but since they aren’t history specific I decided to do them sooner because I can’t help myself 😂. Thank you for following along!

Did you guys end up signing up for CC?
@MaryBarfield6 ай бұрын
Hi there! We didn’t, because I’m actually feeling more and more comfortable in our current schedule/rhythm with our curriculum selections, our homeschool group, our extra curricular activities, etc. So for next year we are going to keep things the way they are and reassess later on 🥰. I think if we add one more thing to our plate, we might fall apart 😂

Great list! Oh man, I hope you can get to them all amidst AG history! I wanted to do both chapter book read alouds and AG books but my daughter wanted to read all 6 books of each girl every month and it felt IMPOSSIBLE to squeeze in other read alouds. But maybe if your girls don’t demand all the AG books you’ll have more space😅 I love AG history but I am so ready to read different books, lol🫠
@MaryBarfield6 ай бұрын
😂 I have a feeling my girls will demand the other 3 books in each girls series but I’m going to tell them we have to get through the entire curriculum and then we can go back and read their entire series 🥴. Cross your fingers they don’t mutiny on me 😂. I’m hoping these books will break up some of the readings from AG and keep everything fresh 😅
@JessieTBRoverflowing6 ай бұрын
That’s so funny! I think it’ll be me leading the train of “we have to finish each AG’s series” (I adored them growing up), but my girls will probably be clamoring to finish each of them too.
