Thanks Sandra. I've seen aux keyboardists assuming a "more active" role i.e. using sax, strings, etc and actively engaging in arrangements. I'll be most grateful if you have the chance to cover these in the near future. Thanks!

Hi P Lee! Thanks for your great comment! Was the aux keyboardist really using saxophone sounds from a keyboard? And what do you mean by actively engaging in arrangements?
@woodyoulove-reynaldguibone68904 жыл бұрын
I think aux keyboard is really a support to the main keys. If you've seen such as auxiliary playing those sounds, maybe those sounds is too much for the main key to cover. And I also think being actively engage in the arrangement is not a problem. Like that's what we want as a team to be more engage in a song even just playing shakers.

Hello again Me-Anne! So glad to see your comment, and I'm so glad this video helped! Is there anything I can help you with in your worship keys playing this season Me-Anne?

Actually, I have been in a transition from playing the aux keyboards to playing the lead keys. :) I have been having problems though of this transition since I have been used to playing pads and taking the lead keys means playing most of the piano parts.I am also trying not to rely on chord charts too much,sSo I hope you could also post videos about chords and riffs and progressions too. Thank you so much!!! Your channel is such a blessing to me :)

Thanks again, Sandra. It's good to see the ambient keyboard part get some recognition. (I don't call it "2nd", since in our church, this is the only keyboard part we have. Also, there is a whole genre of "ambient music" or "space music", based on pad sounds.) As you alluded to, how "thick" you make your chords is related to how thick the pad sound is in the first place. Most pad sounds have a lot of harmonics. The thicker the sound is, the fewer notes you can play together without it sounding muddy. On the other hand, cleaner sounds allow you to play more notes.

Sandra, do you have any recommendations on playing ambient keyboards with a band? When I'm playing by myself I do chord changes like you described in this video. But when playing with the band, I have just been doing a soft, unchanging drone throughout the song-usually a simple triad in the key of the song, often in first inversion so the root note is on top. It works-it reinforces the tonal center of the song and helps fill in the quiet places-but it seems a little boring sometimes. Maybe that's enough-I don't want to sound too "busy". But I wonder if there is more I could be doing. We have two guitars-sometimes three-plus bass. And they are not good about leaving space for each other. Everyone tries to play all the notes all the time, so the overall sound is already very busy.
