That’s the part that DwtS gets so very wrong - most dance competitions are 100% improv. You know you’re going to be dancing a particular style (west coast swing, waltz, foxtrot, etc.), but until the music starts playing, you don’t know what song you’ll be dancing to, so you then have to improv all your moves. Now, most dancing partners work together regularly to create lots of little pieces and moments they can add into that improv, like a really great jazz group practicing together but improvising an entire set on stage. But the actual competition is 100% the leader directing the follow, constantly planning and keeping an eye on the dance floor (there’s usually more than one couple dancing at a time).

He's one on the finest dancers in this eorld. My parents who met in the late 30s and married before he was shipped out in WW2 were level 10. Even born in 55 i never tired of watching them. My aunt..my father's older sister.. described from their their highschool first love chemistry and physical beauty and how they would "clear the floor" everytime they danced. The key is how well you can follow a lead. She's great because she reads him. Of all these I've watched He's always come up with the top moves and no one ever looks bad with him. Women always were in line to dance with my Father after my mother died. They told me it was like being a princess onthe floor with him. My dance with him at my wedding i was told was so beautiful people cried. He taught his three girls how to follow and dance ...i had them late in life and we lost their Daddy too young But ...their brothers have the gift. I'll miss seeing him lead them on their day.❤
