Thank you so much for this video mate. My Dad passed a couple of years ago & left me this very reel, I will give it a birthday & get it back into action. I did notice that the free reeling lever doesn’t seem to work though. Cheers mate

Time to give it a 2nd Chance. The free spool release could be one of two issues. The first is that there is a lot of dried salt build up on the eccentric. Try flushing it out with a penetrating oil to see if it will loosen you. The other is more difficult. That would be a pinion gear that is frozen on the spool shaft. I hope that is not the case. Best wishes - Dennis

Dennis, caught a 115lb bigeye tuna on a Penn 49 about a month ago in the Outer Banks. Had 6 rods out, five Avet 30's and the biggest fish of the day hit on the classic reel. It wasn't ideal being slow but it beat the fish in about twenty minutes. Got lucky the sharks were following the charter fleet so I didn't lose a single fish to a shark that day. It also landed a couple decent dolphin and a 30lb Yellowfin. We had a great day needless to say.

That's what the reel was built for. In fact, put wire line on it and go for the sharks! That reel is a beast slayer - Thanks for the note - Dennis

I have a Daiwa Sealine 910 Rockcod Special. The only difference I see between 900 and 910 is the handle. I don't recall when I got this but I know it was during my years when I lived in California. I suspect I made this purchase for a deep drop that never happen. The reel is in excellent condition after completing my service with it. It's a big and heavy reel but I'm afraid it will never get a second chance for a deep drop.

Those are beasts. So well made and so hard to break. I hope you get that 2nd Chance to take it fishing! Dennis

Try Smoothdrag.com - They have a good assortment of replacement washers. If you done see it, send them a note as it may not be listed. FYI - you may need to add another washer and metal if you go to Carbontex as they are much thinner than the originals Dennis

Dennis I bought a similar one here in Brazil, but the spool axle cover is missing! That chrome cap on the right side of the crank! What can I do to adapt?
@2ndChanceTackle3 жыл бұрын
I think you need to find a replacement cap as that is a tensioner to control the side to side play of the spool. I don't know an alternative bush fix to get it right - Dennis

Awesome video thanks a lot, I just follow your steps on video and service my daiwa sealine 900h. By any chance do you have any web site or a link where I can buy a set of drag washes for this same reel. Thanks again.

This reel has been out of production for some time and is no longer supported by Daiwa. You may try Southwestern parts www.southwesternparts.com as they are referenced y Daiwa post support - Thanks for the feedback and for asking - Dennis

Gday Dennis I have a Daiwa 900 attached to the railing on the back of my yacht , love this reel and must say I really appreciate your video !! I have now purchased a second Daiwa 900 which is also right handed . Is it possible to convert a right handed reel to left hand or can you buy left handed versions ? Cheers Dave from Cairns Far North Queensland. 👍.
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
I don't believe that it would be possible to make that conversion. I have not seen a left handed Daiwa Sealine. I think you need to go to Penn for the lefties. Thanks for asking. So nice to hear for you and my international friends. - Dennis

This is a great video, I have the same reel but a lot older, did they all contain asbestos in the drag rings? Also is there any other specific grease you have to use or is just reel gear oil ok?
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
A lot of the early reels used these. The alternatives at the time were leather ones or cork. Eventually, they were replaced with "space age" materials like teflon, various plastics, felt and others. - Dennis

Nice fix but those original daiwa drag washers are terrible. Carbon fiber washers are like night and day when u replace them. Those old sealines are workhorses.
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
They are Ok if you are no grinding everyday. I agree that the Carbontex will out perform them under heavy load. This fellow trolls with these reels a few weekends in the spring and fall, so the setup is adequate for his use, Thanks for watching

What kind of evil goup can reside in reels, im imagining caustic stuff like naval jelly, toilet bowl cleaner and various petroleum based carcinogenic substances that are probably outlawed in California.
@2ndChanceTackle4 жыл бұрын
I've found all kinds of stuff. Usually variations on household lubricants or automobile greases. When you mix that goo with sand, sea a fish, it gets a life of it's own...Probably not legal is CA. Thanks for watching - Dennis
