Thanks for the video. My grandfather died 20 years ago and i finally decided i should use his fishing setup rather than let it collect dust longer. Ill be using this reel tommorow

This reel reminds me of the Gold Series Daiwas of which I have a couple. Top quality for sure.

Yes. They were between the Gold series and the BG series

I would say that is Daiwa's best original design and highwater mark.

What year is this fishing rod monster Daiwa SS2000 from? By the way, you did a great job, congratulations.

I wish I could get a few of these Daiwa SS reels. They are pretty hard to find in the US. Our friend, David in France, has collected a lot of these SS reels. This reel has a beautiful main gear. I had to soak three bearings from a Quantum Optik 60 reel. I’m pretty sure the reel had been dunked in saltwater given all the corrosion and micro-sand I found inside. I like to soak bearings by immersing them in PB Blaster for several days to try to dissolve as much rust as possible. You did a video on this Quantum but I couldn’t get a clear idea of how the AR dog interacts with the inside of the rotor. That little collar with the spring caused me a kot of trouble. I had closed up the reel except for the spool and that lirttle spring somehow popped off and escaped the inside of the rotor and AR mechanism and fell out. I still don’t see how that was even possible. Had to get my wife to see if she could find that spring. She found it and saved the reel! Many times I have to borrow my wife’s eyes because I can’t see well enough to find small parts myself. The reel turned out quite nice as all three bearings eventually worked fine. Thank you PB Blaster! You did a great job on this very nice reel. Boy would I love to have one! Thanks for another great video Dennis!

Yes - they are very hard to find and when you can get one that just needs some TLC for a decent price, well that makes it double - Dennis

First of all: thank you for making this ! I have done exactly as you did, but for some reason my SS2000 winds/goes round with quite some trouble/heavy. No idea why. Now I can imagine that from over there you can hardly tell what is wrong, but maybe there is some "common mistake" one makes re-assembling this reel. Any tips ?

I would go the schematic and make sure that all of the pieces are in the right order. My first guess is that the shim between the rotor and the top bearing may be missing or wrong. It should be a simple fix, but you need to make sure you installed all pieces in the right order - Thanks for asking - Dennis
