For the money these are good little all around Reels . I own a couple of these. If I were looking to buy a Reel I certainly would consider this one .

Brilliant diagnosis Dennis! I love it when you become the Sherlock Holmes of fishing reel investigation. Very nicely done! I was not aware you could have a free-floating brake plate on a reel like this one. It appeared to me that this South Bend low profile baitcaster was different in design than many of the others I’ve seen on your channel. It was also interesting to see you use epoxy on a reel repair. I’ve only used epoxy while repairing a surf rod. This was a great video Dennis. Oh, I’m sending you an e-mail with photos of a nice Heddon SpinOmatic 290 spinning reel I got today. I already had a 295 in this series so I’m adding this 290 to my collection. - Chris

I have several of these reels South Bend sold, those plates coming off are common with them, epoxy will do the job.
