I have one. These are unique reels. BTW, the spool will interchange with the Royal Maroon 2062. Thanks for the video.

I thought the spool would. I service a Royal Maroon as part of the reels that Bill sent in and the axle shaft was the same. Thanks for the additional information - Dennis

Wow!, seems like a whole lotta gears to do what the more contemporary Shakespears do, but it's a beauty! must sound like a Muncie 4 speed when you're crankin! lot going on in there. thanks Dennis!

It really is totally over-engineered for the fight. Wow! Thanks - Dennis

This is quite an interesting reel inside, I may have to look for one and see how I like it compared to the Mitchell 300.

I prefer them over the Mitchell 300. They seem to run more smoothly.

@@ddselvig the Shakespeare reels in my experience have definitely been a class above the mitchells. They're fine and reliable, but not the most precise. The Shakespeares are far more precise with higher quality materials used. The smoothest ultralight reel I've ever experienced is the Shakespeare 2052 EE/EC, even smoother than my Penn 716. I still like my Mitchell 308, but it is inferior in my mind.

@@TylerSnyder305 I have a Shakespeare 2200 and 2210, both from the early 1970s. Both have ball bearings and are a joy to use.

You should. Both reels are totally over-engineered. Different designs, but true workhorses that will outlast all modern reels

@@ddselvig I've never been impressed with the 70's+ Japanese imports compared to the earlier American made spinning reels. The early Shakespeare's and the Penn greenie / z spinfishers seem to be about the best spinning reels ever made from what I've seen. The 60's DAM quick reels are about the toughest overbuilt reels as you'd expect from Germany, but they're also a bit crude and clunky feeling in use. These American made spinning reels from Penn and Shakespeare have very high quality components, they're buttery smooth, and just very finely made. After that quality started going downhill. In the Japanese imports you'll see plastic anti reverse levers, pot metal main gears, plastic or pot metal crosswind blocks, plastic spool arbors, then plastic or " graphite " cases and " built to last " just fell off the map. That being said, this is all coming from somebody who's hobby involves servicing and experiencing the quality of reels as much or more than actually fishing. Plenty of those 70's reels are still way better made than modern reels, and still the modern technologies do make for a better fishing experience to the average person. It all has it's place. I am just a person who seeks the overbuilt made to last for generations quality that's no longer financially viable to make, I have fairly high quality standards in my fishing reels because I know that this level of quality can be found.

In general I don’t like reels where the rotor and pinion are one piece. At least it doesn’t use a U-clip. I’m certainly not fond of tiny e-clips. I’ve always thought I wanted one of these but I’m not so sure now. It seems almost over-engineered like a Mitchell 300. You did a great job with this unusual reel Dennis. By the way I managed to get a nice Penn 712Z reel today with the papers and original box. It appears to be in great condition. - Chris

What a great reel. Looks like it would retail at about $400 in today's world.

built like a tank , doesn't it? it would probably made in China like all the other brands. this one is 50+ years old, the newer stuff won't be around in another 50 years, this one could be with a little maintenance regularly
