Even with the focusing problems in this video, it is easily the most informative one I've found here in Jan 2024. The places he points out are indeed the source of 90% of "adjustable" faults, at least as for the average d-i-y person with a bit of mechanical interest. Thanks !!

I have about twenty old vcr's out in the shed, as well as over two thousand kick ass movies. As the functioning vcr's blink out one by one I am compelled alas to turn my efforts toward learning these things from top to bottom. I've worked on a lot of cars but this is much more interesting and relevant. I fully intend to make myself an expert, and I'm gonna watch every good video on this that I can. This was great. Thank you!

YOU SAVED MY VCR! THANK YOU!! it was the capstan! It was solid as a rock, I didn’t even realize it was supposed to move. Some WD40 on a q tip carefully worked down along the shaft and a rubber band to help me get a grip on the blasted thing to work it in. I went from having no picture or sound playback (but the tape advanced and rewound just fine) to having perfect picture quality again. Thank you! I’m not sure what that did to restore the picture as I have no idea how a vcr works but hey. If it works, it works :D

I just found this video yesterday and i was blown away by the quality of information and the detail you go into, I was an instant subscriber. i love the channel and as for any background noise, it wasn't a distraction at all so i wouldn't worry about it. All the best.

@giin97 Жыл бұрын
Same here. Done several cleaning passes, no improvement, and tapes that played perfectly yesterday are now going fuzzy exactly the same. No fuzz during fast forward or reverse, and the fuzz isn't at the same location when replayed. Definitely an issue with the VCR.

@John Smallberries dunno. Really sucks, because I was 2 hours into a personal project to archive a huge library of family videos I found. Checking with my uncles now to see if anyone has a VCR squirreled away that I can try 😁

Having this weird issue where my vcr makes a whining noise when playing tapes and it makes the picture look wavy. I've noticed if I take the top off and just lightly touch the fixed guiding post it stops. Not sure if I need to somehow tighten or maybe loosen the post.

Hi mate. Really great video. I'm trying to copy some vhs vids onto dvd. My problem with a cpl of them? is that the audio is just turning out a humming/buzzing noise. It may be the tapes are just knackered as they have'nt been played for some time. But if you've any tips on what I could try before they go in the bin? I'd really be grateful. Ps. I do have audio on other tapes that I've tried!

Did you ever find a solution to this issue? I have been having the same problem!
@1wannabee14 жыл бұрын
@@danhughesartist Hi, unfortunately no. I tried every way I could but to no avail. The picture quality improved very slightly but ,y films that had no audio remained the same. I did find a fella that claimed really excellent results via a machine he had made himself. But the costs that he quoted if you wanted him to do them for you? were just rediculous so it was'nt even a choice in the matter. Tc now and sorry I did'nt have better news for you.

Pretty sure the belt is worn so the machine turns off to prevent damage to the tape. Gonna throw some rubber bands on there and see what happens.
