Yeah, it’s 3 samples in one song actually! But I think the main one is computer love by Zedd, that’s the vocal chops, then the “step up” vocal wasn’t actually sampled from Gang Starr like most ppl think. Both Gang Starr and Pac sampled it from "Bumpin' Bus Stop" by Thunder And Lightning. The drums are from Impeach the President by The Honey Drippers from 1973. 1973 was also the year that hip hop was thought to have been invented. This song also samples other songs in the vocals such as Silly Rabbit Trix Are For Kids and the song also samples The Ladder by Prince (yes THAT Prince) and The Revolution at 1:00 when Tupac says “now everybody looking for the ladder”. Back then artists made references to other songs in their lyrics and these had to be credited. Other samples include Weekends Were Made For Michelob by Steve Karmen, which is directly referenced in the lyrics of this song at 2:18. New York New York by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five from 1983 was also sampled which I think were one of the first hip hop artists. Tupac samples them quite a bit. So there’s 7 samples in total of which 5 are vocal/lyric samples. But the computer love chops and the step up vocal gives the song its vibe along with the Rhodes chords. Unfortunately this version didn’t have the beautiful piano intro 😢
