I, like you have been a 2Pac fan for a long time and have waited and waited and waited for the OGz to be enhanced/remastered etc in the way some of the songs were handled on the RUSD & SIR albums, but as the years went by it was like that was totally not the goal anymore. Am I right in thinking that there's really only one chord being played on that electric organ? I remember a few years back the theory was they ran Shocks electric organ through some kind of gate or even a whammy bar-type thing to get the wah-wah effect out. To be honest I've always kind of hated this songs overall mixing, it sounds almost like they played 2Pacs vocals over an already mixed beat and never went about sequencing/mixing it properly with his vocals because at times it sounds too busy in some sections and too toned down in others. So it's nice to hear someone mess around with the concept a little to change it up from what we've all heard before.

I probably should(ve) write/wrote this in the description 🤣 Aight, I'm not exactly sure what instrument used for that "wah-wah" instrument, but I can tell you what I used. I used an instrument on Reason 8.0 called "Filtered Wheeler" (I usually use it for synth whistles/the worm) but I had to open about 5 racks called "Subtractor" cuz for some reason that "Filtered Wheeler" instrument can't play chords being that it's a mono instrument. (I'm pretty sure Shock G didn't have to go thru all of that trouble 😏) There are a few different chords I had to make and to create with the notes being closed notes. To get that "wah-wah" effect I had to toy with the "modulation wheel". For some of the chords that I just couldn't get right I just extracted them from the OG and used them. Now as far as the mixing on the OG I agree, it's awful, but I'd like to believe that what we got was a version that wasn't mixed at all. One of the main things I noticed though is that verses 1 & 2 seem to be one take, then verse 3 is another take, but the instrumental is started over to verses 1 & 2's part and then stitched together to make the song full, best way to tell is by listening to Natasha Walker's ab-libs on verse 2 and her ad-libs after verse 3. They're the exact same vocals

@@chitownmytownofficialonean6067 Both versions are OG, 2Pac apparently went back and forth over which one he wanted on the album he was working on, he didn't like how Shock was mixing the track and made another one, then apparently went back to Shocks version later. There's supposedly even a version of R U Still Down after he went to jail which has a phone call with Stretch in the beginning. Apparently this is actually an old beat, it was supposed to be on Strictly on a song called Love Ya Future then they remixed/rerecorded it in 1993 as R U Still Down.
