I first heard “Deadly Combination” on Big L’s The Big Picture... The way the beat comes in and you hear Ron G “Flllaaavva!!!” Then you hear Pac’s distinct laugh hauntingly flutter onto the beat! Then the beat goes Tun Tun Tun and the piano keys drop. That song is hip hop. That energy is so live! I had no idea how that song was conceived. Thanks so much for sharing that story. It’s wack how 2pac for many people is so synonymous with the east west beef or bad boy death row beef etc. Personally I try to almost forget about that shit and only focus on all the heat 2pac dropped and how connected he was to so many people in the industry. Not only 2pac but a lot of the artists back then, the way you made your name was through really getting out here and move n shake through these social circles and vibe with people, have your talents seen/heard and find people to build with. Naturally there was bulls hit that came with that but I always thought it was so dope how everyone has a 2pac story or a story about this person and that person. Not only were they creating legendary shit they made dope ass memories and their music to show for it.
