That small tiny chilli you had with the Ban Mian is called Chilli Padi and it’s really spicy. Most local wouldn’t add it into the dish directly. It’s usually put in a separate saucer and add some light soy sauce to use as dip for certain dishes. I think one thing you guys can check out if you are coming back again is the ‘chilli culture’ in Singapore and Malaysia. We have so many different ways of making our chilli (some blend with garlic, some with blachan, some with onions and many more), and each different local food, we used a specific type of chilli sauce/dip. An easy example is, you can never eat chicken rice with Char Kuey teow chilli n vice versa. So chilli padi is not a banmian thingy technically.

Adriana The crab shell "carapace" is not just for decoration, there is bright orange roe inside it which is yummy. It would be a waste to toss it away. You could eat the crab with rice. Spoon the delicious sauce on the rice and eat together with the crab meat. In no time, you would have finish the whole bowl of finger licking good sauce. That would be my way of doing it.

I finally went to Singapore in May for the first time. I watched your first trip there and it was helpful. I did end up spending 2 nights at MBS just because I don't expect to be in Singapore for a long time since it's so far away. I did pick a package with included breakfast. If you ever stay there, this package is cheaper than buying it separate. The buffet up top next to the pool I thought was amazing especially with the food, cool breeze and yummy food. My gf and I want to go back someday. Most likely once we're married!

As a local who worked in F&B scene The high price of chilli crab that you had paid for is highly due to it’s location n scenery, IMOHO, not the best brand for famous Chili crab yet. I will like to recommend you The following restaurants For chilli crab dish 1) Sentosa Blue Lotus restaurant, 2) Jumbo seafood restaurant, 3) Tunglok Seafood, 4) Red house seafood and lastly the original chili crab creator Roland Restaurant in Marine Parade area And yes, that dish can be for 2person (do go for sri lankan crab n if they allow you to chose the size , for two person chose between 800-900gm will do ) if you are here again. 😊

@@2Passports1Dream Locals who dine there would pay the same price too, so rest assured you are not paying well above although I must say it's abit on the pricey side. Red House is a well known restaurant, best known for their crabs. You know it's a good one when the crab meat is firm and tender and not soft and watery. Normally, we locals eat it with our bare fingers where we can have a firm grip on the crab. Then it becomes finger licking good 😀😋

Eateries such as Lau Pa Sat and that restaurant at the Esplanade are where clueless tourists get their meals at "touristy" prices. There are many hawker centres in neighborhood areas next to MRTs that offer the same or better but at prices about 30% cheaper. Singapore is so small and well-connected by MRT that I feel tourists can afford to be more venturesome and explore the outer regions without ever getting lost.

By any chance, did you try the soft-boiled eggs as part of the morning breakfast with the kaya butter toast? I am curious to find out your views on our Singaporean breakfast soft-boiled eggs. In case you were wondering, The Merlion is closed for routine maintenance, which is carried out every 2 to 3 months.

Oh the maintenance is that often?? We had no idea 🤗 but of course, it makes total sense why it’s so bright white and looking brand new otherwise haha! We did actually try the soft boiled egg another morning and it wasn’t our favourite, but I think we ate it wrong? 😅😅 I ate the toast first and separately from the egg! 😂 oops!
@JSimHZ11 ай бұрын
@@2Passports1Dream Yes, the maintenance is needed to keep the Merlion and its water system in an excellent state. About the soft-boiled eggs, from what I know and see, most locals would mix up the runny yolk with the runny white with the pepper and soy sauce that the stall provides. Then locals like to dip the Kaya Toast into the runny egg mix. I personally like to eat the soft-boiled eggs first. I will consume the runny yolks whole without breaking, then mix the remaining egg white with just soy sauce. After finishing the eggs, I will proceed to eat the toast with the drink. I am not sure and I am curious to know, is it due to food safety concerns that such a preparation of soft-boiled eggs is not found outside of Asia (e.g. Europe, UK, USA)?

On crab, and portions: A medium sized crab, about 1kg, similar to what you guys got, is good for between 2 to 4 pax, depending on how much crab you want to eat, though an enthusiast could definitely devour an entire crab if they weren't eating much else. The good thing about splitting it between just 2 people is that each person gets 1 claw :)

MBS, hope you read this. Offer this couple two free room night stays just as you so freely dispense them to your casino patrons. With their amazing vlogs, it would be free publicity for your hotel chain too.

You should disembark Bayshore MRT station directly at MBS mall and red house seafood is one of my favourite ❤️

I'm always worried about youtube couples that seem overly positive cuz its usually not when cameras are. Just seen too many. Hope they are genuine happy. Not just for the camera.

i know a lot of people from the west , they arent really fans of our Kopi, the predominant comment is that is far too sweet. i once saw this white lady struggled to order a kopi peng from the counter, finally she got it , she took a sip, her face recoiled in disgust and she just left the coffee on another store's counter , pretty funny sight

Haha different tastes for different people! We love it especially because it is so sweet 😍

One crab is for two paxs. Yes it's messy and expensive . Most locals don't eat here.
@2Passports1Dream11 ай бұрын
Luckily it was VERY delicious 😍😅

The expensive item is the giant crab imported from Sri Lanka. Locals eat regional crabs which is smaller and of course cheaper. The chilli sauce is about the same in most restaurants. Locals eat the sauce with rice after the deep fried bread.
@wilsonkoh257210 ай бұрын
Yeah eating crab in sg is already expensive. There are some hawkers there also sell chili crab but not all sell sri Lankan crab 1.2kg, only regular mud crab around 800g probably and also way cheaper. Eat crab in high end place probably will be more expensive haha. Anyway 1.2kg sri Lankan crab not depend on how many pax eating.. I would probably think what big is your appetite for crab or chili crab. Someone like me, I can probably finish up the 1.2kg sri Lankan crab myself or even more. Haha hope u guys love the chili crab, come back sg another time. U can try hawker one which is not in the town area.
@2Passports1Dream10 ай бұрын
Oh so good to know! Thank you for the info 😍 we would definitely eat this again, but 100% try a hawker one instead!

@@2Passports1Dream In every heartland coffeeshop, there is usually a zichar or cook food stall that sells not only crab but other side dishes as well. Usually they operate in mid afternoon to cater for dinner crowd.

Your no. 6 noodles, locals dont pour the watery chilli over it. And the chopped red chillis are insanely spicy. Dont dump chili into the noodles next time

What's the usual dinner time in the uk? In the USA it is 6 pm, thus asking.
@2Passports1Dream10 ай бұрын
In the U.K. it’s also around 6pm at home, but usually somewhat later if you’re heading out to a restaurant. In a lot of other countries it can be somewhat later. For example, Singapore it seems to be more 7/8 pm 😊

Fortunately, u reserved a Saturday but went on a Thursday, if it was the other way around, u may not have a seat for the chili crab. 😄 U can have that for 2 if u r not ordering other dishes. Also, I won't go to a restaurant in the central for chili crabs coz they are expensive. I guess u r at Esplanade? And yes, we, Singaporeans, made a mess too that's why I prefer to eat chili crab at home. Once, I had claypot crab bee hoon with a client who insisted we order that dish, he ended up helping me remove the shells. 😂🤣
@2Passports1Dream9 ай бұрын
Yes we were so lucky with that mistake 😅😅 whoops! Haha I can imagine eating it at home would be more relaxing cause you wouldn’t worry about making a wild mess haha!

Chilli crabs in the suburbs for a similar sized crab in a hawker setting will be about between $80-$120 . Just for info 😅
