It's his job though to critic and mentor his artists though. It's not like he claimed that he has the best singing voice. He even admitted to maximizing what he has and imparted such value to his artists so they'd magnify their potential.

It's not like JYP ever claimed to be the god of singing anyway. Back then it wasn't like they had KZbin. He had to travel to the US himself to listen to famous singers in concert or have someone buy their tapes and pick up whatever he could to impart to the trainees. You clearly haven't heard the behind stories of the most renowned musicians across any genre. They all had teachers/instructors/mentors who had to be the bad guy and be blunt with them. No it's not ok to abuse them of course but it's a teacher's job to blunt especially in such a cutthroat business where millions of dollars and your reputation is on the line.

JYP seems like such a bully, saying all those harsh things to these kids. Almost a decade ago, they were all kids only and even as trainees, nobody deserves to hear such harsh words :( Makes me appreciate 2pm all the way more for really sticking through, together, despite everything. Among all his groups, 2PM is the group that has the most collaboration performance with JYP on stage (not include JYP Nation concert). Especially in 2009 while 2pm was on top, he always appeared in their music end year festival. I dont know why he isnt doing that again to his current popular group.

He doesn't want to be seen as trying to be pushy and artists don't want to be seen as trying to ride on their boss's coattails either. That said, he is on a much more personal level with older artists like 2PM, WG, 2AM, Byul, Rain, Park Ji-yoon and g.o.d and they address him as hyung/oppa rather than PDnim or ssem (teacher). Back then he had to much more hands on because of lack of manpower and entire careers at stake with less financial backing.
