If it's one thing I've loved about Urkel, it would be his genuine character. He may seem awkward, clumsy, or nerdy, but when push comes to shove, he sticks by people, and it shows in this video with several examples: Steve finding Laura's lost doll, Steve teaching 3J how to read, and Steve sticking by Laura while a shooter was present. People cannot take that kind of character for granted because they would lose one of the most valuable treasures of life.

That is the true meaning of love and also of Christmas - to do something to bring happiness to someone else. Steve knew that Laura's happiness matters before his. I'd like to wonder if Steve told off Eddie for throwing the doll away without asking Laura first before he (Steve) went to the dump to search for the doll. I'd love to think Laura's mom or grandma fixed the doll up later, and the doll would be saved for her & Steve's kids as a keepsake with them learning the true meaning of love & giving.

This episode as so well done. There was a large contrast between the two, Steve and Stefan. Stefan was definitely a smooth and successful guy who did care about Laura. I mean, he was Steve to a degree, so his devotion and willingness to sacrifice for her was there, but what shined was that in contrast to his huge, elaborate pre-proposal at Disney Land, Steve's memory of first trying to give Laura the ring was more meaningful. I still couldn't believe he kept onto that ring this whole time, and right after remembering how he felt that was the closest he could ever get to marrying her, it finally happened. It's so satisfying. Steve has always loved Laura unconditionally. Incredibly unconditionally. He has had to grow up as much as she has since he has been pretty pesky and overbearing as well, but he often put her happiness before his own. He waited until she was mature enough to see the good traits in him and all the experience they've had together. The question was a very potent and made me think about my own wife. "Can you imagine a life without each other?" That's a really good way to put it. Even if Stefan's life would be more glamorous, romantic, and exciting, Steve's always been a huge part of her life (I mean, he literally lived at her house half the time lol), and he has done a lot for her. A life without him is like the first part of season 1, good, but something feels missing. She has a good family, and Stefan wouldn't have been a bad choice necessarily, but without Steve, it might feel more empty. I guess the reason I really like Steve's character is because even if I'm not as pesky, I feel weird, a little annoying, and undeserving of such affection. Despite that, I found the love of my life who loves me for all that. The lesson here isn't to get into an unhealthy, one-sided relationship that feels manipulative. It's that you shouldn't just give up on finding someone. Steve was awkward as heck and often disliked for being so nerdy or a pest, but he had self-confidence and liked himself. I went through school feeling sorry for myself, and I mistook pitying for love. If you work on being your best self, and love yourself for you being you, then you may find someone who also really likes you for you.
@keshealm4 жыл бұрын
Well said!!!!! Wise words..
@TheGame2k2s10 жыл бұрын
One of the things that's really touching about this episode is that it really adds up. I know a lot of people like to argue that Steve and Myra should have gotten married but if you look at how their relationship went, it was never quite meant to be with them. I will admit though, the end of their relationship was poorly written and could have been more dramatically driven. But Steve's love for Laura never diminished in the entire run of the show. Laura on the other hand went through this slow process of finally seeing Steve the way that Steve saw her. This realization that her love for Stephan was very much like Stephan himself, artificial, and realizing that the man that Stephan was all along was Steve himself.
@rpmangin10 жыл бұрын
The question is, though, what DID Laura do to deserve Steve's undying ROMANTIC love for her? Laura was a good person, I admit to that, but what the heck made her the ONE for Steve? In real life, Steve would have given up on her before he was even in high school.
@reelsweet2510 жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Laura had to grow to love Steve. Steve on the other hand it was love at first sight. That is how it is for some people in real life.
@rpmangin10 жыл бұрын
Still, for Myra, Steve was love at first sight, and it would have made more sense if it were STEVE who grew to love Myra. Sure, Myra had her faults (clingy, demanding, impatient, and pushy), but if Myra could love Steve despite HIS faults, why couldn't Steve love Myra despite HER faults? Myra was also only psycho when Steve was around Laura, because she saw no reason why Steve should even love her, much like I don't see why Steve should have chased after Laura all those years.
@TheGame2k2s10 жыл бұрын
Well, you have to remember, it was love at first sight for Steve too when he saw Laura and not quite love at first sight when he saw Myra. It's always tough to let go of that first crush, especially if you live next door and eventually with that crush.

Over the years she treated him like dirt but eventually came to realize that despite his nerdy appearance he's a good and dedicated man who would do anything in the world for her. Steve was even willing to move to Moscow and let her be with Stephan which i find to be such a noble thing. It's funny how it took to him almost leaving to get her to say yes to his marriage proposal.

Genevieve Nowaczek This reminds me of the story of The Little Mermaid the original not the cartoon. The mermaid will die if the prince marries another woman which he does, but the sea witch gives her a knife that will allow her to return to the sea if she kills the prince but she doesn’t do it and allows him to be happy with the woman he loves. She doesn’t end up with the prince like Steve ended up with Laura but she is rewarded for sacrifice by not ceasing to exist like mermaids do after they die but instead becoming a daughter of the air with a chance to earn a soul.

The last Season was the best--watching Steve change his look and start speaking less nasally, Laura starting to be attracted to and like him...the progression to when Steve and Stefan both proposed to her...and you feel for Steve, understanding why he might think Laura had rejected his proposal and accepted Stefan's but--when she tells him what he wasn't expecting--that she chose and wants to marry him--despite knowing something like that is coming the whole time--it's all so moving that when she admits that, it's so wonderful. They don't make tv shows like that anymore. But--one thing I keep bearing in mind--Stefan. It's great that things worked out for Laura and Steve like they did but after the rejection of his proposal, we didn't see Stefan again. As for what became of him, we can't and could only speculate but the reality is that it can't be good.
@JanetMarieRose735 жыл бұрын
Laura knew who has always been there for her first as her friend and later as her steady guy - Steve. He knew he had to always treat her with respect and dignity because he simply could not compete with the long line of guys that Laura dated over the years that had the great outer shell but did not possess the inner qualities Steve has. She knew over time that looks would fade, and Steve would always remain loyal & loving to her and any kids they would have together. I'd love to think Steve still keeps up on those romantic qualities he first showed to her in the Non Date & Marriage 101 episodes years later without having to be reminded constantly to do so. I'd take a Steve type over a Stefan type any day if given the choice because I want someone who cares about me despite my weaknesses and my lack of outer beauty.

They've said in a reunion interview, if the script is written and they get checks for acting it out, they would do it. That was a year ago when it was stated so it might take some time for the pitch to be thrown but if Netflix is willing to do it, the cast is on board.

This is my favorite montage of Steve and Laura moments. I watch the series as an adult on Hulu and see the foreshadowing in so many episodes that they would end up together when they became adults including the non date, playing Romeo and Juliet, the marriage project, the dance at homecoming, the doll at xmas, the senior prom, etc. You can tell there was a bond between them going back to the times when they were 13 years old. They just had to grow up and mature before they ended up together as a couple as we should try to do.
@zharria5 жыл бұрын
Janet Marie EXACTLY. im starting to think you’re the only one with sense about their relationship and character growth. I recently just binged watched the series (imma youngin(16), but i watched the reruns as a little girl on nick at night and fell in love with it) When i seen that hulu had it on there i couldn’t resist. I cried after I finished the series, it truly deserved a tenth season or a long movie or something for closure.
@JanetMarieRose735 жыл бұрын
@@zharria Thank you. I am a few years older than Kellie and Jaleel who played the iconic characters of Steve & Laura. When I watched it originally and now binge watch now as an adult, more things are noticed and you look at things thru the eyes of an adult compared to the young person I was when the show was on air originally. I totally agree there, I wish it got the 10th season, I've read rumors it would have started with the wedding and the series finale was to be Steve and Laura's daughter Stephanie' being born. That would have been wonderful to see their relationship as newlyweds progress, still in love, and the conclusion of the series with them having a baby.

This is my fourth time commenting on this video in less than two weeks lol but I feel every word that Steve says to Laura. "I Do loveee u, I adoreee u, I worship the rain that waters the grass that grows on the ground u walk on. All I ever wanted to do is to make u happy." Steve Urkel. I know actions speaks louder than words but no actions besides Steve's to Laura can express those words. And thatz exactly the same sentiments I share for my friend Debbie. although she may never find me to be attractive in that way or share the same feelings, I will still love her and adore her even if I stay just as a friend to her.

Not only was Steve loyal to Laura he defended her when her other suitors mistreated her. Or chased them away before they got a chance to two time her. I loved how noble he was when he encouraged Ted to take Laura to the dance because it would make her happy. And when he was going to move to Russia because he felt that Laura would be happier with Stefan.

I think there was love there all long. It took them maturing and growing up first. Yes, there are many people who marry their childhood or teen sweethearts too much like what Steve was able to do even if Laura was not fond of him at first when they were young. When I watched all these shows it looked to me like Laura has always loved Steve but was the typical good girl. She always wanted a pretty/bad boy. She gave in to peer pressure so often unless Steve talked her out of it or got her out of it. But when she grew up she realized how important he really was to her. He stepped aside many times to make her happy but she never really had to live without him. Most people didn't see it but Steve was more mature than Laura. He never bowed to pressure and he didn't make any changes in himself until he wanted to. I didn't have to chase my wife like Steve did but she was the typical good girl who always wanted a bad boy until she realized life is so much better with a good boy....me.

Yes, but Myra saw this early on and accepted Steve for the man he is inside. Yes, I agree she got a bit to stalky and possessive. However in her defense, it was really Urkel's fault for not having appreciated Myra at all that lead her to being the way she was back in season 5. He should've apologized to her back in Breaking Up is Hard to Do and explain himself to her why he loves Laura. Had Steve done so, Myra would've understood how he felt and agree to remain friends. That way Steve could be with Laura without feeling guilty and Myra would've found her true love in Cornelius(Urkel's cousin).

ladyfire44 but Steve did tell Myra upfront what the deal was. He told her that he would remain friends with Laura, and if she ever developed feelings for him or gave him the time of day that he was gone. Myra accepted that when she should’ve walked away. Steve could barely stand Myra showing affection towards him. It almost like he’s trying to fight her off. I never bought into their relationship because of this. Side note: How long was Myra really spying on Steve through his glasses? And how could she have known what dress Laura bought for her date with Steve when he didn’t know until the night of the date? Could she have been spying on him all along?
@ladyfire446 жыл бұрын
I'm just saying that the producers could've had Carl explain to Urkel what happened to him that lead Georgia stalking him back in Breaking Up is Hard to Do. Maybe if he had known of this earlier, Steve would've realized that he needed to talk to Myra first and made sure it was all right with her to end their relationship. That way, they would've had ended their relationship amicably and Steve could've started dating Laura. Myra would've remain mature and find her true love in Cornelius who helps her move on with her heartbreak. Probably that long because she installed a spy cam in Steve's glasses and in the science pin he gave Laura.
@rpmangin5 жыл бұрын
@@daw91210 but Steve had three chances to be rid of Myra forever before he got with Laura, and he kept Myra for the time being anyway: (1) when he and Myra split in season 5's "Nunsense," after Myra drew a picture of him naked without his permission, but Myra went to a convent to visit one of her aunts who was a nun, and Steve thought she was joining one, and actually went after her and ended up admitting to her his feelings for her was stronger than he thought! (2) in season 6's "Paradise Bluff," when Myra demanded he go steady with her or it's over, and Steve ALMOST broke it off then, but a near death experience gave him temporary sanity long enough for him to agree to go steady with her (3) in season 8's "Revenge of the Nerd," Myra demanded he agree to marry her after college or it's over, and Steve actually DID break up with her for the duration of that episode, only to take her back at the end when the next woman he dated ended up just using him to win a geek party contest.

@stephaniemaes95298 жыл бұрын
if they did a spinoff (which they won't), the show should be evolved around Steve and Laura, with Steve as a scientist and Laura as a lawyer. Eddie as the captain of the Chicago P.D. married to Greta, an artist. Waldo owns his restaurant and got back with Maxine, a salon owner. Richie running Rachel's Place. Rachel as an inspired novelist. Carl and Harriette retired and living with Steve and Laura.
@ladyfire447 жыл бұрын
In that spin off Steve and Laura have two children: Stephanie Laurine(17), a popular and intelligent student like her mom, but much wiser in the men she dates. Her younger brother, Bertram(16) is a nerd like his father and likes working in his lab inventing stuff. Steve owns and operates a state of the art science lab, while Laura is a well known lawyer. Carl and Harriette live next door to them and are enjoying their retirement. Eddie and Greta have two children: a son named Ted(18) who is an honor student, while his younger sister, Jolene(15) has her father's earlier traits as a teen in getting in trouble and being yelled at by Greta.

Deep down, she did love him but was afraid to say so for a long time fearing her popularity at school and her peers. Once Laura grew up and matured, she then realized her feelings for Steve. Steve always treated her nice even if at times when he was younger that he could be annoying & a pest. He remained a true friend to her and friendship is an important part of a good romantic relationship. It may have helped that Steve did change the way he dressed but still he remained very much a nerd & geek with a huge heart that just wanted Laura to love him back (and she would do so). He never forced her into things unlike most of her past boyfriends' attempts. He may have asked for things as simple as a kiss but he never made her follow thru unless she wanted to do so. I just wished the remaining episodes after 2 part "Crazy for you" where they go to Amores for their first real adult date, we got more of Steve and Laura's relationship playing out as young adults leading up to his marriage proposal and space training/mission thing such as the Polka dance, the breakfast scene where he makes her favorite things, and the picnic basket to go on their date to the movies as an example.

I would definitley miss being on a hit sitcom for 9 years but I'd also be soooo happy to be done with Urkel for good. I wish we could've gotten closure though, we never got to see their wedding as there was supposed to be a final season but CBS cancelled it at the last minute.
