I don’t have kids, so I’m just going to be the 70 year old lady still listening to punk, emo and metalcore. Telling the kids, their music sucks. I’m in my 40’s now, and get told all the time I have the taste of a 13 year old when it comes to music. 🙄 I don’t even talk about music with people in my age group. But, hey that’s okay. I stopped listening to mainstream music around 12ish. I’ll never go back, 99% of it is awful. Turning on the radio makes my ears bleed, all pop music sounds the same. It’s bloody awful. IMO

The behind the scenes for how this video was made is really interesting. While seeming all too relevant to the current coronavirus crisis, the song ‘Parasite Eve’ actually started to form last year when Sykes was reading about a Japanese superbug that had become heat resistant due to climate change. He borrowed the title from an old Playstation game and the band started to record the track back in February before the pandemic really took hold across the globe.

These are from my old 'neck-of-the-woods, Sheffield (England). BMTH have origins going back almost 20 years. The sound on this track reminds me a lot of Raves I used to help organise (going back to early 90s). It wasn't just Techno-based music at those. We'd bring in bands too, from many genres. Written before the pandemic was a thing, it is based on the 1998 Playstation video game Parasite Eve a cult classic game involving sci-fi themed modern day bio weapon outbreak gone wrong with a Resident Evil kind of feel. They actually hesitated releasing it as the Video and finale instrumentals were finished at the onset of the pandemic. Once the hype of the pandemic settled down in June they felt more comfortable releasing it.

Idk of anyone answered but the overall "theme" of the EP this came out on is humanity is a parasite, and a thing that is killing the world. BMTH as a whole is such a good story telling band. Their entire albums tell a story within each other even if one song to the next is a completely different genre
@fenixlullabye66873 жыл бұрын
One of the reasons I think you are gonna like BMTH is that Oli (the singer and lyricist) has gone through much between drugs and mental health, and he pours his entire heart in the music he makes. Jordan, Lee, Matt and Vegan are very talented too, but I just saw how much you like Ronnie Radke because of the passion he puts in what he does, so it came to my mind. Oh and the entire video of Parasite Eve has been directed, produced and edited by Oli! They all filmed separately (since it was in late May) and then he put everything together. Another fun fact is that the female voice is his wife!

You got it right with the first guess, they wrote this song specifically about the COVID-19 pandemic and the horrifically inadequate response from so many governments around the world. It's also a reference to a Japanese video game of the same name, so they wove the two topics together for the song.

The part you hear sampled in the beginning is a traditional Bulgarian folk song, BTW. Another good song from their new album is Obey. You can say whatever you want about the band, but they're not afraid of experimenting and evolving. If you're interested in their humble and much heavier beginnings, check out Pray for Plagues - it's almost like listening to a completely different band and singer. Additionally, I keep pushing for Nomer 1 by Bicheto and Shattered by SEVI, especially if you decide to do another International Week.

I had heard the song was about a Japanese superbug that had become heat resistant due to climate change. I think it can also be applied to what the world is currently facing with Covid and whatever else you want to apply to it. One of the best lines is (IMO): "When all the king's sources and all the king's friends Don't know their arses from their pathogens When life is a prison and death is the door This ain't a warning, this is a war, war" The band has many good songs with good written lyrics. In terms of genre, I feel like they are similar to BabyMetal in that they have soooo many different sounds.

Glad you got around to bmth. I myself just discovered them a few weeks ago due to this latest EP. Every song is great. Now I'm working my way backwards. Similar to FiR in that they change their sound. More bmth please! Keep rockin!

@NanaKing You should check out Ronnie's first band Escape The Fate. He was on their first album Dying is your latest Fashion. Ronnie wrote a song called The Day I Left The Womb. After knowing Ronnie's history and listening to it, its gut wrenching honestly... even if you dont do a reaction it please give it a listen. You'll live and appreciate Ronnie that much more....

They originally had this written before coronavirus was a thing, it was about a smaller Japanese pandemic. They released the album during covid 19 after altering the lyrics of this song so it wasn't disrespectful to those that had died.

It's based off of the video game Parasite Eve, although I personally think the parasite is the human race itself
