A really good Skaven short story was in the old Fantasy 7th+ edition books... "The Doom of Kavzar" it really tells you about the bells.

It all looks pretty great, but i'm so sad they neglected rat ogors in moulder and gave bonuses for master moulders only to hellpit abominations :'-(

Thanks for the review, can't wait to get my book next week! On an unrelated note, I just realized the die in your logo at the beginning has the dots misplaced and now I'll never unsee it. The 3 should be a 2 or a 5.(opposite sides add up to 7)

yes, please do a deep dive, i just ordered the book and the varanguard, cant wait to finally play ratboys. loved them since i got into warhammer from total war but played S2D and SBGL because skaven were so inaccesable

Any chance we get a series of "coolest footnotes in each battletome" video? for example, in the skaven tome, there's a bit about a warlock who discovered a skaven afterlife and made a gun that shoots ghost skaven.

Biggest disappointment is the Verminlord changes. The Corruptor in particular got a nerf/lateral update and now also costs 75 points more. His plaguereapers are now random attacks, Liber Bubonicus isn't around to turn it into a priest, and to top it all off the wording of the new Pestilens subfaction rule means he doesn't contribute to the bonus as Echoes of the Great Plagues reads "CLANS PESTILENS PRIEST", whereas the other clans with similar abilities read "CLAN [X] HERO", which the clan-specific Verminlords count as, of course.

i don't like the new battle line rules the old ones were clunky but now i have to get like 3 mastermoulders to have my moulder army work and it limits what clan specific armies can look like cause i don't want to have take 20-40 clanrats in all my different clan specific armies

The only thing getting 3 Master Moulders nets you is getting mutations on Multiple hellpit abominations. If you're only taking 1 you don't need any. In addition, taking heroes from the other clans lets you take other things as battleline. It's way more versatile than the last book.

@@reubenmccallum3350 yes i know, but i enjoy building armies focused on a single clan i would have preferred if they did it like some other books where having, for instance a clans pestilens general would unlock unlimited plague monks as battleline, with the new rules it kinda forces you to use clanrats unless you have the max amount of heroes possible

At this point, you're definitely better off getting third party models if you want a Skaven refresh. My suggestion is a company called ResinWarfare, that puts stuff out on Etsy. Great range of models, looks much better, and most everything that isn't meant to be chaff (Clanrats, Stormvermin, etc) is more cost effective in resin. Instead of paying $15 for one(1) old Skryre Acolyte in metal, of a random sculpt, you can pay $20 for five unique sculpts.

We're in a 40k refresh cycle right now. We're going to have to wait for the next codex for a chance at a big range refresh

Okay, I'm late to the party here but want to know your thoughts... I was shocked when I walked into both my FLGS and Warhammer stores and they had the Battletome and Skaven Vanguard set but NO NEW MODELS. I expected after Echoes of Doom and the awesome new Netherdeep sculpts that GW would be launching a new model line by now. Not only didn't I see anything new, but all the cool stuff in the range was simply non-existent. No Clan Eshin, no plague anything, no warpfire weapons teams or Moulder monsters, nada. Like Doug said, since Vermintide is so popular, Skaven are a unique GW faction(s), so why the lack of love?!

The new optional battleline rules are so freaking cool man, they made a killer job fixing the issue. I'm still not buying those old as shit minis though lol.

I do not have a particularly good feeling about this book. Being able to mix units doesn't matter if none of them are very good.

The book is widely being regarded as something of a sidegrade from the current book, and considering that the current book is the weakest book in the game...
