The day we leave from the USA to Indonesia, we get word that the motorcycle we’re going to buy in Jakarta has gotten into an accident! Thankfully our friends who were riding it are all right, but the bike itself (Dorco) has sustained some damage… And our trip hasn’t even begun.
Plus, as we fly to Indonesia, we stop over for a short visit to Tokyo, Japan! There we check out the city’s bustle along with its ancient zen, Marisa has an experience with a high-tech toilet, and we have an embarrassing chop stick disaster.
Welcome to our channel 2Up and Overloaded, we’re excited to have you along for the ride!
We are Tim and Marisa Notier, and we quit our jobs and sold everything 5 years ago to ride around the world two up on a motorcycle to follow our dreams. On this channel, we share our adventures with you, and everything we learn about traveling together on a motorcycle ➜ what to do, and what to avoid.

Excellent! It is so exciting to arrive to a new world full of new adventures and experiences. I love your enthusiasm even after 17 hours on a jet. The airports in Japan are amazing too with all kinds of thins to see and do while waiting for your next flight. We decided years ago that we do much better by planning an overnight stop in a nearby hotel for our layovers. The heat and humidity is a killer for those of us not used to it. I hope you are easing into your activity instead of diving in. Looking forward to the next video as always!
@2UpAndOverloaded
@2UpAndOverloaded Жыл бұрын
Yes I definitely think an overnight hotel stay for that long set of flights would've been best and much needed. As you'll see in the next episode, we were dead once we arrived in Indonesia. The title of it is "Zombies in Jakarta." Just brutal. But since then we have been easing into things. And our adventures have been unbelievable! Full of crazy ups and downs! It's been intense. In fact, I think there's only one way to ride a motorcycle in Indonesia, and that's by diving right in (after getting over jet lag😉.)

All of Canada?! My goodness, that's amazing. I've been hearing about the crazy wildfires happening out there right now, it's such a shame. Wow, it was quite the adventure just traveling to almost the point of embarkment! Good thing you're young and tough; I doubt you'll come across a dedicated safe space to commiserate with the kindred downtrodden who didn't get the flavor of wheaties they wanted for breakfast 😂 but the "female button" washes away all worries! Pretty cool, Toto. (Those things are not cheap! And they could not be utilized in public facilities in your home country.) PS my wife and I have come to a system where we check with each other how bad we have to go before deciding on who goes first. PPS: I'm curious how much latency you're running, i.e., how long since that flight.

Great way to spend my lunch period! Congrats on the start of the next chapter. I'm curious if you guys will experience what I did in my time in Japan. I was not in a major city, and it was the 90's so no cell phones or Google translate. Unlike Europe, I had this exhaustion that I eventually figured out had to do with communication. The Japanese have totally different "body language" and facial expressions. You don't realize how much understanding relies on these physical cues until all of a sudden you can't process them. The culture is that different. So communication became fatiguing very quickly. Didn't experience that in Europe or Brazil. Also, though I can't speak anything but English, when you can at least recognize the alphabet, all is good. In Japan I learned what it must be like to be illiterate. Late at night, small train station and a board filled with characters I can't read. I just wanted to get back to my apartment. That memory has stuck with me. Part of the issue was that I was alone and weeks and weeks of nobody to speak English to. You guys have each other, and the internet, so I'm wondering if you will experience that same fatigue? Let us know🙂 Ugh, the bell just rang, dang kids!!!!!
@2UpAndOverloaded
@2UpAndOverloaded Жыл бұрын
Wow, thanks for sharing such a fascinating experience in Japan. Although we didn't experience that since our stay was so short, I (Marisa) do know what you mean. When I first went to the middle east on my own I felt like I had reverted back to being six years old. I couldn't do anything. I tried once to buy milk and ended up with a salty yogurt drink! I simply couldn't function without help, it was humbling. And yes, it was exhausting too! So much brain power is required! I can only imagine that in Japan it was even worse because that culture is just so different and at least I had a phone back then (though it was basic). I really want to spend more time in Japan, but I did notice most signs having English translations these days. So I think your experience was truly a unique one 😀.
