@@thebigguy8306 haha, I’m not shitting on him, it just drives me nuts, my dad was a motorcycle mechanic, plane, diesel, and he’s got OCD, so he’s just instilled in me not to throw parts at stuff like that. Joe does a good job, and makes great content. I’m not sitting here saying I’m a better wrench. To pump out the videos at the rate he does , there’s a chance it’s not worth the time properly diagnosing and better to make another video installing new parts. Nobody wants to what you sift through a wire loom for a loom and use a multimeter. Which in that case, genius. 🤣

Kudos to you Really nice of you to fix that kids bike for free. Love it when people pay it forward. Your video are extremely helpful and I have learned heaps from your journey. I would never have guessed the magnets on the flywheel were the issue. I will certainly look for that one in future if all the std electrical stuff checks out. One tip. use contact cleaner on all the connectors and a dab of Di-electrical grease particularly on the stator plugs and the plugs on the front down tube as those are always getting covered in Mud and get wet when riding in wet conditions.

Wicked good job joe!! I’ve got an 01 cr125R that I bought with the motor out because someone broke a case half trying to split it with a flathead screwdriver lol. I’ve bought all the replacement parts but I have a hard time assembling stuff that I didn’t disassemble myself. I’d be more that happy to send you my motor and pay u to make a video of putting it back together. It’d need a new piston, and most likely cylinder, which is gladly order for you too. I believe the crank is good, absolutely no up and down play. It’d be awesome to have ur help but I’d understand if I didn’t want to. Either way, love watching u grow!!

That was an amazing repair on the YZ! I was wondering if the magnets on these things get weak, because they do on the magnetos of antique tractors and engines. The type on antique engines can actually be recharged with a powerful electromagnet. Anyway, it was an interesting diagnosis, and the work you did in the other fellow's bike was a very nice gesture!

those older four strokes have a special starting procedure. Im sure you can find it on a forum somewhere. Its something like give the throttle a couple pumps and then put your hand on the handlebar away from the throttle so you arent inclined to twist it and then get the piston just past top dead center and kick. This may help getting it started easier. Im not sure if that is the exact sequence but I'm sure you can find someone that knows more about it. My 04 crf250r worked best with that one.

word of advice.. if it is spray paint, just use some solvent to wipe the paint off. dont scratch it off with something metal. The magnets coming out.. i had the same issue on my 2006 Arctic cat 400 4x4.. the magnets were glued in, so the glue came undone, and then a magnet came out of it, previous to me getting it, and i saw that i had spark sometimes, and not at other times. i bought an after market flywheel, with the magnets as one piece. replaced it, and now it charges, and runs and everything is great. I bet the magnet is not spinning, and or grounding out. the worn spot on the back of the stator is from the timing chain.

I had the same exact experience a few years back. I bought a rm250 and literally went threw all the same things you did new top end carb gone through and after I did everything it decided to finally loose all spark. Well after replacing everything in ignition system I replaced the flywheel and that was it. Mine didn't show any signs of damage but it was bad and worked after I replaced it. Always through it was a bit of a myth flywheels loosing there magnetism but nope mine looked to be in perfect shape and still would stick a screw driver but somehow was bad

Thanks for sharing your adventures with us, I work on kohler engines on grain augers for customers, I've seen quite a few of them where the magnets explode when the bonding fails in the flywheel and wipe out the stators. could the loose timing chain rub the back of those stator brackets ? My thoughts on that bike are that compressions way to high, or somebody dumped it on it's side and bent that kickstart shaft for it to break like that. Maybe with the new part it'll kick over better. Thats also cool you fixed the kids bike for free, it's not always about money somedays. I've done the same for guys here in my shop when life went south and it wasn't their fault. Everybody comments about the 10K in that bike, but at least the kid don't have 10k in a drink and drug problem. He's also not in jail after fueling it by crime, he'd got dirty fingernails so he's working doing something useful. I did similar when I was younger and put my money in building a pulling tractor, while my friends were in the bar wasting money and waking the next morning with a hang over. Take care.

Not for the readings he is getting. If he was trying to find 4 or 5 ohms, than yes, his leads would be making a significant contribution.

Maybe change one thing at a time, next project. Instead of throwing a whole new ignition at it all at once. Just wondering which component it was.

the second a magnet snaps or cracks the 2 sides oppose so that would not conduct a spark like it did as instead of all pulling in 3 magnet halfs would be trying to push out magnetically :)

It’s a bummer you got it all buttoned up and the kick broke! At least it was on camera 😂
