#농악놀이(Nongak Nori)
Nongak Nori is a composit art that combines Korea’s representative percussion performance and dance. It involves various hand and foot movements, as well as playing percussion instruments such as the kkwaenggwari, jing, janggu, and buk. These instruments are played with rhythmic beats that mimic the sounds of nature, such as rain, clouds, wind, and thunder. Performers wear a hat called sangmo, which has a long ribbon attached to it, spinning it while performing diverse artistic expressions.
Traditional Korean custom in nongak includes white garments symbolizing the Korean people. Each color of red, blue, yellow, black means the regions of East, West, South, and North. These colors also express wishes for prosperity and national well-being.
One of the key performances in nongak is julggungnori, where a string is attached and spun in a circular motion to symbolize fire rituals, believed to drive away evil spirits.
Another traditional game is salpan nori, which involves jumping, spinning, and rolling, often referred to as ttangjaeju. (ground rope walking).
Beona nori is another performance where performers skillfully spin and toss a plate-like object while keeping it balanced in the air.
Korean nongak is recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO and remains an important part of Korea’s cultural heritage.
