2004 3.4 liter Pontiac Grand Am.. Running hot problems after about 1000 dollars spent on heads, gaskets, bolts, heli coil kits due to stripping a few bolts in my block. New thermostat water pump pulley, belt tensioner arm. Ect. Car will run hot if I don't have my a/c on.. I think it's due to the radiator fan, higher speed. But so far so good. Car runs GREAT!

Wife's car has been over heating. Service engine light on. Saw this video before going to buy a thermostat and waterpump. Did this took about 15 min of idle before and liquid came out and finally did solid stream. Wife's car is no longer over heating. And engine light went off.. Thanks for this video saved me a massive amount of time and money. Now instead of turning wrenches on my vacation off work. I can drink beer. This beer is for you good sir.

Awesome... if it doesn't work for others ... I would say it's a problem with your ECM or PCM... I had the same problem and it was because the fans are not kicking on due to the temperature coolant sensor not activating the fans... The coolant temperature sensor is supposed to activate the fans to keep the coolant circulated at about 190. Turn on the air conditioner and the fans will come on because the air conditioner system requires the fans to work in order for the AC to properly work. As long as you have your heat or air conditioner turned on the fans will come on but they will not come on by the temperature coolant sensor relaying it the information. People just tie the fans and directly to a toggle switch on the dash and run the fans 24-7x

There's a thermostat bypass hose with a bleeder on it that's how the General motors manual says to bleed the air from the system all you need is a 10 mmwrench and a 1/4" drive with a 7mm socket

I have a Chevy Cavalier that has been giving me hell getting the air out. Ran at 195 which is the midpoint for about a year. I replaced the water pump because there was a lot of noise in the pulley. When I replaced the lost coolant I didnt bleed the air out. After a few months it started running passed the midpoint onto the 2nd line of the temp gauge not too far from overheating. Scan tool says 225 which is 30 degrees more. This car has ran 195 or less which caught me by surprise when I saw the rise. Issue started as soon as I started using the heater. I think air got trapped in the heater core and released out when I first turned it on.

Yes, my 04 Chevy Impala will turn on the cooling fans at 215 degrees F and back off when it cools down to 195. But if you press the button to run the air conditioning it will keep the fans on to keep air moving through the A/C condenser.

You should check out the outlet hose from the heater core that goes into the back side of engine! You should find a small coolant leak which is where the air is being introduced into the cooling system. Disconnect tube and replace tge o ring gasket! Problem solved! You will need to put back the coolant lost and bleed system but this should solve the problem!!! This will hold true on most GM 3100's & 3400's. Your welcome!!!
