4" is quite easy to get under 250g imo... I run the BQE Pickpocket frame, xnova 1804 3100kv, 4024 props, ghf405 pro aio 25A, Nano400 VTX with EMAX Nano antenna, ELRS EP1, Toothless 2 Nano. The quad weighs 122g without the battery, and with a 650mah 4s pack it weighs 202g, giving ample room for a naked GoPro under 250g. This setup flies for a good 6-7 minutes, even with aggressive flying, on that small of a battery, and the battery voltage barely sags at all. Overall it behaves really nicely.

The Babyhawk II HD has a Nebula Pro so it doesn't compromise on the image quality. Mine has a similar issue with propwash and I haven't been able to tune it out yet. Hi Josh As you know I love Micros. I have 18 different sizes and shapes of quads. There are 3-5in and 2- 4in and 1-DJI Mini and the rest are 3in. Now I have 3in in 3s up to 6s. But my best and lightweight is my 4in 6s SKYHOPPER, it came in at 182gm with 6s 450ma lipo. And YES it's FUN !!! But it is very easy to break. The arms are thin and I'm running a 16X16 flight stack. But it just seems to work. I just would not be able to do what I could do with that frame and electronics. Thanks again for the video and information.

True all in one ESC/FCs scare me. I burned an ESC on my 5" by trying to fly with a broken prop and didn't realize what had happened, as I had crashed in someone's yard. The prospect of such an innocent mistake turning my entire electronics core into a paperweight is scary. Heck, I'm feeling like a stick in the mud when I comment that I'm not sure I like the move to 4-in-1 ESCs on "all" miniquads for the same reason. Toast one, replace all four. I idly wonder if putting 3.5" triblades on the iFlight Chimera 4 3800kv version (extremely similar ESC/motor setup) would be an option to improve its freestyle performance further during sessions, and then put the 4" bi-blades back on when you want to do some LR, since changing props is fairly quick and easy. Yeah, putting 3.5s on a frame meant for 4s won't quite be as optimized as a true 3.5" frame like the Smart35, and the Chimera has a TON of extra junk in the trunk (GPS, etc), but the Chimera already is a compromise, trying to be "not the best at anything but good at many things".
@Gosuminer3 жыл бұрын
Selecting prop size by AUW makes a lot of sense and if your AUW needs to be 250g the 3.5" class looks awesome. Personally, I prefer using an air unit to have at least 1080p footage and there is no 250g air unit setup I would be happy with so I go with boring 4" and 5".

A GNB 4S 650mAh HV battery is much lighter than an 850mAh battery, and will easily let you mount a naked GoPro 6 on this quad. My 3" cinematic filming quad comes in at 160g before battery and GoPro and sub 250g with both fitted. I'm running 1404 motors, 3800kv. Flight time 5-6 mins using that battery. This could work with a naked GoPro under 250g

I think that the switch from 120 fps with low latency to 60 fpv with high quality makes a big difference. Especialy when you do a roll, you're not gonna have that smooth video as you would have with 120 fps so you're automatically "terrified" of freestyle.

My Shcoker 4" is 249g with BH 2004 motors, Caddx Nebula Pro Vista and 650mah 4S HV TBS battery. 3-4 minutes of freestyle. I'm sure a couple minutes longer for cruising, which I don't do. Go analog for even more flight time.

This drone is awesome - incredibly stable for such a light weight! I used 450mAh batteries and it shot around like a robotic bee! However, I discovered that the bottom-plate is INCREDIBLY fragile - especially where the motors attach!!! Due to how fragile it is, I can't recommend buying it
@Chillasaurus-Rex3 жыл бұрын
Joshua, if you think that this quad is good then I think you should try a Pach Ray. With the recommended build specs and the default Emuflight preset tune by Pierre Meunier. You can use the exact same 850mah 4S lipos and those exact same 3.5 inch Scimitar props on it. The difference would be like flying Steele's Apex after flying an average BG 5 inch quad. Except that the Pach Ray can carry a Naked GoPro 8 while still coming in under 250g. I've been a 3.5inch convert for some time now but it would be interested to see you try a more finely tuned & designed example for yourself. :)

I am of the opinion that the more weight you have in the stack (suspended by gummies) the less vibration the stack will experience because something with more weight has more inertia and it takes more energy to get it moving back and forth. At the very least, I feel like it will dampen the higher frequency vibrations.

I have I Diatone gtr-349 HD. How much different are the flight characteristics with this?? Is it worth buying if I already have a fast powerful 3 inch that i think flies amazing..?
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
If that's how you feel about your 349 then just keep flying it :-)

it looks really cool, its not so much about being under 250g, but yeah 270g would be useful for safety.....

Well you get so many of the best drones on the market, and I really really would like to get into this hobby it's so awesome but really expensive at the same time I know it's probably a waste of your time but I'm going to ask anyway if you ever get to many drones and like to give one or two away or for that matter anything like it PV gargles transmitters or whatever just let me know cuz I definitely be willing to pay the shipping for one and this would be something that would help me and my son Bond a lot thank you very much Bill

in your flying i see the same result´s hat i have with my Babyhawk2 3.5" the quad is too light for many manouvers. your flying with this thing is now where near your normal flight performance

The 60fps in high quality Mode with 35ms doesn't factor in the latency from the Googles in 60hz right? So the 120hz Low latency Mode is not only the shown number in the OSD lower but also the lower latency in the Googles build in screens. If someone measured it, please share. I like my 4inch stripped Baby Crocodile 4 with weighs 117g with the naked Vista.
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
RC Schim measured latency by shining a light in the camera and detecting the light on the screen. So that is glass to glass latency including camera, RF link, and screen. He found that the ms latency shown in the DJI was pretty accurate.
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
The latency is glass to glass. It includes the screen delay.

Than it is pretty weird like you sad with the latency spikes of the Nano and Polar And thx for answering :)

As a heavy can I ask, at what point or size do you actually balance these props? Or do the manufacturers do that? Thanks guys. Love n peas.
@Nigfis3 жыл бұрын
Lol.. Newby not heavy! 😄
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
You don't balance these props. They are decently balanced from the factory and we destroy them so quickly in crashes that any work spent balancing would be wasted.

I wish it had the nebula pro instead, I built a quad with the nebula nano and it flies great but the latency will make it feel like a boat out of nowhere

Some years ago, 1407 or 1507 was advised for 3". And now 1404 seems to be just enough for 3.5" Oo. In order to build a 3" freestyle, 1404 is enough? (My micro apex 3" with 1407 weight 200gr without battery :'( )
@JoshuaBardwell3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the weight. 1407 and 1508 are great for heavier like cinewhoop.

@@JoshuaBardwell thanks for your answer. As I said, micro apex is a little tank... 200gr with vista. And 300gr with 4s 850mah. Is it heavy? I hope same trust/weight ratio than my 5" but it seems to be impossible.
