@@xgreasexmonkey5506 In the ten years I've had mine it's not been an issue. Still the original factory cooler on it. But then I don't crank down on it during oil changes either. I keep it clean and the threads are always lubed with oil before I replace the cap and I do use a torque wrench. I change oil at 3000-mile intervals. The engine runs strong, it's clean inside and out and it's quiet.

Some information from my dad who used to work in Chrysler's warranty department before he passed. The reason these engines are having failing rocker arms in years before 2019 is because the engines were originally designed for 30 weight oil and then were back spec'ed to 20 weight oils because of CAFE fuel economy standards. The problem is that 20 weight oils have a lower HTHS (High Temperature High Sheer) rating which means that there is less ability for the oil to keep parts separated under high load areas of the engines such as in the needle bearings used in these earlier rocker arms before they were switched to a solid large pin (no needle bearing) design in late 2019. You can buy these rocker arms. The MOPAR Part numbers end in AH. Anything earlier than this will still have the needle bearings and not the solid pin. A work around if your engine is lower mileage and not ticking is to choose a 30 weight oil (which the owners manual says you can use) which has as high of a HTHS rating as possible. 30 weight oils will be 2.9 or higher. Amsoil XL for example is the highest I've found at 3.3 HTHS. (Heavy Duty Diesel Truck Engines specify a minimum of 3.5 HTHS for cam loading for this reason) In a 20wt oil it's 2.6 minimum and this is too low to protect these needle bearings. The other thing that you can do to ensure you don't suffer from issues is to not idle your engine too long (lack of oil flow to the top part of the engine). You don't have to take my word for it, but it's an easy change to make to ensure you don't suffer from this in your 2019 and previous Dodge Caravan, Journey or Jeeps that don't use the PUG Gen 3 engines as found in things like the Grand Cherokee, RAM pick-ups, Dodge Durango's (not Promasters or Chargers), These engines with the PUG 3 design have the Variable Vale Lift and use a different Rocker Arm design to accommodate the VVL system and don't suffer from this same problem.

Afew weeks ago I became the proud owner of a 2023 Charger GT "Last Call" edition. I have never owned a Chrysler Corporation vehicle but I've had more than my fill of GM cars and trucks and all the poor reliability and build issues associated with them. I was VERY tempted to go with an RT Hemi version with the sweet sounding 5.7 V8, but with gas prices uncertain, I took a chance that the 3.6 V6 would be all I needed. Never even test drove a car with the V6 so I had no idea what I was getting into. WOW what a pleasent surprise! That 300 hp engine moves my 4100 pound car quite rapidly!! And it's so SMOOTH you will have a very difficult time determining if it is runnning at all. Almost zero vibration. Probably the smoothest engine I have ever owned! I am sure I made the right choice, Now if it just had that awesome V8 rumble from the exhaust!

At about 50K miles on my 2013 Wrangler it started hesitating badly and threw some codes. I took it to the stealership and they cleared the codes and couldn't find anything wrong. I had to drive back and drive the mechanic around in it to show him the issue. He then agreed. A day later they call and tell me it needed a spark plug replaced to the tune of $820. They recommended doing all of them. 6 spark plugs don't add up to over $800 so I asked why it costs so much. They told me to get to 3 of them you have to take off the intake (true) and replace the gaskets (lie). I asked which side the offending plug was on and they said the easy one. I told them to change those three and they still charged over $200. When I picked the Jeep up they stressed how the spark plugs should be changed every 30K miles. I said "My 2008 Silverado still has the original plugs and runs like new." In fact it's never thrown a code except tire pressure sensors. I told them if it needed new plugs, I'd watch a YT video and do the work myself next time. Anyway I sold the Jeep before it could foul more plugs.

My '15 charger had 667k. Mostly highway driving defending America's roads from demadogs that are smokin pot and meth while driving. My group removes them from our harm. 540 Rat blog says quaker state full synthetic 5w30 is better than amsoil. I change my filter every 1-2k. Mobil 1 filters. No engine issues. Changed thermostat with dorman metal housing, serpentine belt q100k, hoses q100k, champion 9407 oem plugs q100k, coils q200k. Oil filter housing with dorman at 100k. Never since. Trans 8 speed pan with oem oil q30k. No issues. Love this engine. Oh....no cats. Im allergic. Lol. 😮

lot of plastic on these engines. hot/cold cycles will weaken the plastic parts....especially Arizona. Watch those oil galley bolts near the front of engine around the cam reluctor wheels. Also, convert the oil cooler housing to a metal one....leaking problems down the road. Noticed 90% of comments are positive.

Why in the world did they put this engine in the Promaster? My 159" Promaster 2500 really struggles. The van has a GVWR of 8900 pounds. Chrysler should have found a engine with more torque.

I have a 2014 charger sxt, use synthetic oil. At 136,000 miles, valve spring broke, dropped valve in cylinder and ruined the engine. Replaced engine, 36,000 miles later, valve spring broke, dropped valve into cylinder, ruined engine. Replaced engine, traded car for Nissan, no more dodge products for me.

Surprised you didn’t get a Toyota over a Nissan. Nissan also has issues, especially if you get a CVT instead of manual transmission.
@stoneyg141310 ай бұрын
If you managed to get a 3.6L that your not going through tune ups, oil coolers, rockers, lifters and cams your good but these engines are terrible for it. Idling in long periods is a recipe for disaster. I don't like 5w-30 really thin, good for start up but after the engine breaks it down some engines get that unknown friction

So this is the answer for Mopar wow. Now with all.of the issues with this engine which baffles me the most is now in the new RAMs they drop this junk motor in it and drop a turbo in it. The only way I can see them get their die hard customer base back is a redesigned Gen 4 Hemi without the lifter, and camshaft issues. Without that, they will be in a constant bailout until the government cuts them off and then the death nail to them all together. Those are their choices.

You forgot they had high rates of cracked cylinder heads on all years, to date even after they lied and said they fixed it. I know a chrysler tech that has changed a ton of cylinder heads due to cracks. Good engine with pissy poor quality control like Ford.

I have had 3 of them, the only problem I ever had was the head castings for the early JK’s had casting sand issues leading to a plugged heater core. 2 of the 3 I kept over 200k with no issues the third was the JK motor which had the heater core plug.

Such a garbage engine. Died at 140k km. All oil changes done with full synthetic every 5-7k km. Maintenance done religiously and the van driven gently and with much care. Engine some how wore out the cam shaft and the transmission has always had a random clunk when shifting into F/R/N. My mechanic said the worn cam is something hes seen a dozen times.
