I have experienced the serpentine belt issue on both 3.0t cars (fixed under warranty) but no other issues beside that. I'd go for the 3.7 if reliability was a primary concern but 400+ whp and tq with bolt-ons and tune with the 3.0t is nice...

If you could choose, go with the 2015 because the 2014 was the first q50 gen which has more bugs the 2015 worked out. I've owned my 2015 q50 premium (awd) for a year and the only extra maintenance I've had to do is replace the belt tensioner, one of the idler pullies and the serpentine belt which frayed in half. I have a 2019 370Z with the VQ37VHR engine and I think it's a better engine than the VR30DDTT. The greater reliability of the 3.7 is a big factor in its favor. Being naturally aspirated, there aren't the high pressures and temperatures that are in FI engines. Nissan states specifically that the stock internals of the engine are good without any need for strengthening if you aren't going above 450 hp. I recently attended a showing of the new 2022 Z in San Jose and heard the engine running; it sounded more like a sewing machine than an engine. Nissan seems to have done a good job in the turbo setup on the Q60 Redsport and upcoming Z but the boost level, ~15 psi, is a little worrisome for the street. the 3 liter VR engine in NA form should be able to produce about 90 hp per liter. With 15 lbs of boost the theoretical hp should be about double, without intake air temp heating due to adiabatic compression from the blower. The fact that they're getting about 133 hp per liter suggests to me that the intake air temps are getting pretty high and that the compact air to water intercooler is marginal in its effectiveness in extracting heat from the compressed incoming air. Before I would consider a forced induction VR engine, I would want to research better intercooler solutions for that application, like a larger air to air unit or a Killer Chiller for a water to air intercooler.

Great discussion as always man. I can definitely see the pros and cons both motors. I'm with you on avoiding that first year model when a new platform is released. I can definitely see where you’re coming from with all the points you said however, in terms of practicality of a daily driver the VR30 engine pulls head with its better gas mileage. The VQ’s sound incredible and i wish i had those sounds on my Q50. Right now i average about 22.8MPG with mine and i’ve heard horror stories of VQ owners saying they get like 12mpg… That’s the thing that bothers me. With gas prices going through the roof nowadays some people are not gonna wanna dish out the money to keep pumping gas in the VQ’s.

in addition to your 5 pros why i prefer the 3.7, id like to ad 2 more. First is the potential, displacement..... the 3.7 has far more tuning potential and aftermarket towards it, also with some going up to 800hp on stock internals for short term if you tune it really well. CJ has did a turbo set up with a 9 second 1/4 pass few years ago with slicks and drove to the track and back home by just changing out the rear tires, all stock internals. Second is the the amount of engineering that went into this engine, it has been perfected and re-engineered for 20 years all the way from the 3.5 VQ in 2003. So much more engineering when into this engine over the past 2 decades and you'd be surprised what has been put in all the way from the DE days to VHR with higher revs and twin intakes. Which makes this engine bullet proof with its modern 3.7L platform. Every iteration from 3.5L to 3.5L HR to 3.7L, each iteration has improved built upon almost the same platform so it was little room for error for 20 years.

@@SpeedCultureStudios From what I understand, the VQ37VHR engines in the early G37 had a problem with oil gallery gaskets going bad, which requires tearing everything down to the rear timing cover to get at those gaskets. Going from stock 2015 3.7L AWD, which is sick, what wheels and tires package do you think upgrades the ride most? Meaty winter wide setup or big thin summer sport? Or all seasons?
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you’re going for. I like 19s because you can still get a little meat in the tire. Too thin of tire does not make good traction.
@cwgw91025 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCultureStudios agreed, more tire contact. Steep driveway lip is keeping me from lower, but definitely no thinner tires. Thankfully no run flats. Btw for those with stock/OEM runflats.... it's a TOTALLY different car w/o those tires

Im going to be a first car buyer in the future 7-10 months. I was looking at 2015 q50 under $17k and under 45k miles automatic transmission, awd, clean carfax, etc. The thing is that I'm not going to be under my parents insurance and I'll hopefully be looking to put a $5k down payment on the car. I am also in the process in building my credit since I have none, and I'm getting a secured credit card and spending 30% of the $200 cap per month to try to get my credit score to around the 700 area. I'm not that knowledgable about cars but I could do basic stuff like oil changes, etc. Any tips you could share with me or advise me in anything I left out thanks!

Sounds like you have a good plan going forward and the q50 will be a nice reliable car for you. On the financial side, insurance is going to be high-I’m not sure what your expectations are, though. I’m not sure how far along in the credit building process you are, but if you’re trying to go from 0 to 700 in just a few months with a credit card, it’s not going to happen. It takes quite awhile to build to that level, and even with good credit-having limited credit is a hinderance when financing. The $5k downpayment will certainly help though. Just some things to think about.

Bro DONT GET IT DONT GET IT DONT GET IT. I’m 18 years old I JUST got a 2019 Q50 a month ago. It’s under my parents insurance and I did a $5k downpayment, my mom added $3k for a total of a $8k downpayment. I owe $20k more on the car. I wish I got a cheaper car it costs like $50 to fill up the tank with premium gas, and it only gets like 20 MPG even on the highway. Get a cheap old cash car dude trust me! I learned my lesson... I have to work my ass off now to pay this car off but the goal is to GET RICH NOT LOOK RICH.
@edaking145135 жыл бұрын
I would agree with the general consensus on this post. I hate to break it to you bro but it's very difficult to get a first time loan by yourself with limited history even with fantastic income. I would see if you rents are willing to sign or work on your credit and wait to get a 16 or higher with the 3.0t which in my opinion is a great car that will see depreciation. It's a long term goal because like they said, building credit is not an overnight process. If your lucky after a year I would recommend going through a pre-qualification process before actually applying anywhere to get an idea of where you might stand.

but you say that 3.7 is faster than q50 3.0t? prove it in the video?!
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
When did I say the 3.7 is faster? Stock vs stock, they are nearly exactly the same. 0-60 the 3.0 may have an advantage, but in the higher rpm and higher speed ranges, the 3.7 has an advantage because as everyone knows the 3.0t in stock form falls off st about 5500 rpm There are already a few videos that prove that!
@KK100275 жыл бұрын
@@SpeedCultureStudios you said g37 shifts faster! thus should have advantage. i have seen that g37 walks away the q50.
@SpeedCultureStudios5 жыл бұрын
Koit Kranig I don’t remember saying the g37 shifts faster. I was saying the 7sp automatic shifts faster than a human can shift a manual trans, which is true. I didn’t compare a g37 to a q50. It was just a general statement about automatic vs manual transmissions because everyone talks crap about this 7spd. As far as the g being faster-there may have been a g that is faster than a q, but I’d say it doesn’t happen often. The G is lighter, which helps, but they are getting old now so that hurts and they don’t make as much power. It’s the same engine (99% the same anyway) so they are going to perform almost identically. Stock vs stock it’s going to come down to driver and tires more than anything.
@That_Stinger_GT54 жыл бұрын
@@KK10027 you're talking fast and listening slow. I think you need to rewatch the damn video..... also a G37 has the same engine as a Q50 3.7, it's literally the same shit sedan to sedan, the coupe would maybe have an advantage for being lighter because every knows cheapest hp gains is shedding weight which the coupe has over the sedan Q50. The 3.0t does fall flat on its face when its turbos stop spooling there designed to do that for fuel efficiency just like any other stock car with a turbo, the 3.7 is N/A and if you have ever seen a power pull from them it's pretty curved and keeps pulling so in regards to the question a 3.0t would get a 3.7 from a dig because the turbo can spool quickly but once that sucker dies out a 3.7 can relatively catch up because it does have a turbo giving out in the high rpm area.
