Maybe try comparethemarket? I'm learning to drive and so I've been looking at insurance quotes to see what I can expect to pay for my first year. I'm being quoted around £3000 without a blackbox on a 2011 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 Diesel. Insurance is such a ripoff in the UK.

With all respect, 2 years no claims is nothing. I've been driving 11 years, completed pass plus a week after passing my test. As a 28 y/o male i'm currently paying £1,250 on a 67 reg BMW 335D X Drive (stock - 313bhp, 630nm of torque, 3 litre diesel, 0-60 in 4.8 seconds). I've had two "claims" against me, none of which were really my fault but they appointed the blame my way since the "blameworthy party" couldn't be located. First one was a "blameworthy incident" when the engine on my 17 plate Focus ST-2 exploded on a dual carriageway, it was 5 years old and had done 88k at the time, insurance didn't pay out and highways england came to clear up the oil spill from the carriageway and then claimed against my insurance for their costs. Second one was when my BMW was parked up outside my house about 7 months ago, and it was struck by a delivery driver who then drove off without stopping. Again the blame was appointed my way since the driver could not be located and no registration for the vehicle visible on any of the CCTV cameras. I have a protected NCD so it didn't affect it. You have to remember mods drastically affect insurance prices. Most youngsters especially males opt for performance related mods. Insurers of course view this as you making the car "faster" and therefore you represent a greater risk given the limited driving experience you have, thus the higher price compared to a completely stock car.

I've been driving since 2012 I was with admiral and they put my Insurance renewal up to one thousand two hundred with two modifications declared I only paid five hundred and something for last year with admiral but I have changed Insurance companies and I'm paying a decent price now. Plus with admiral the information I given them was the same as the previous year nothing changed

Few tips to bring the price down always ask for a quote to start one month ahead always add a mature driver to the policy also increase your excess slightly

My renewal was around £3k this year, so I looked at Brentace which wasn't that great for me, I tried AdrianFlux and managed to get £760 instead of £1.5k with comparethemarket. Exhaust system was the most expensive modification for me too which seems crazy, as it's “cosmetic” (Miltek OPF). I declared Immobiliser, Tracker, Modified Exhaust, SP30 (2018) and 7 years no claims, crazy.

When you hit 21 your insurance will naturally go down. I was able to get quotes on a VXR for around 2k a year less (total 1.1k) after I hit 21... Hang in there you'll be able to get it all declared. Elephant (Admiral) were best for me one payment of the 1.1k exhaust air filter stage 1 map and im currently 23 with 3yrs no claims.
