I did the same swap. Put a 87’ 5.2 in a 87 Dakota. I love driving that truck .

I just finished this swap in my 97 ram 1500 used everything from 3.9 on the 5.2 for the nv3500. So yes it will work.

I used pcm from 1995 4x4 Automatic truck that my engine came from. Never again tho lol I will get an Intake and Carb and throw the pcm and wiring in the weeds. Your video is the reason I can go to work tomorrow morning tho, much appreciated and pledge allegiance to the HAG

Can i use the 3.9 magnum flexplate on the 5.2 ?
@charlesfields79082 жыл бұрын
@@1mad_bug if your refering to an automatic then no. The notches are different than an automatic 5.2 flex plate. Notches referring to the holes the crank sensor reads on the outer edge of the flexplate. 5.2 has 8 the 3.9 has 6.

Hey man I'm doing this on my car. My question is have you had this running and have you had any balancing issues?
@charlesfields79082 жыл бұрын
So far none. BUT i did make sure my auto flywheel was snug to the 318 cankshaft just so it wouldnt be any balancing issues as well the fly wheel bolts being a loose-tight fit meaning the bolts being in tight toleramce to the flywheel holes but still drop in loosely to help keep vibration minimum as well. Z358 or 357 🤔 is part number for the regular flywheel for 318 manual trans though.
@iseeconspiracies95792 жыл бұрын
@@charlesfields7908 so do you think the V6 is a few pounds lighter than the v8 flywheel. Also I will probably grind down the auto tone ring so it fits closer to the flywheel I noticed it sat about a quarter inch away
@charlesfields79082 жыл бұрын
@@iseeconspiracies9579 the tone ring on back of the manual flywheel can be removed with a punch and hammer. The auto trans flywheel will fit over the notch where the tone ring originally sat. Basically it allows you use the v8 with a v6 flywheel but using the auto flywheel has the notches for crank sensor to pick up 3.9 flywheel is 10in clutch 5.2/5.9 is a 12in clutch. As far as side by side comparison between size of flywheels i havent done but im thinking there the same or real close to same diameter.

im doing this with a 5.9 im going to use the 3.9 manual trans and i cant seem to find the size of the flywheel that will work for me, do you know the tooth count of the 3.9 flywheel and would a 5.9 flywheel work
@charlesfields79082 жыл бұрын
Your best bet look for a flywheel for a manual rt dakota 99-01 or a ram 1500-2500 with 5.9 manual 94-01. Some 2500's and 3500 came with gasser 5.9's. Worse case scenario use a flywheel for 5.2 take it to machine shop have them rebalance it for 5.9. Tooth count on 3.9 5.2 and 5.9 is 143. I have a 5.2 backed by the ax15 trans, what you want to do should work without problems. Hope this helps.
