Why do this melodies sounds so much like classically US melodies (if there even is such thing)? I have no real musical knowledge but this sounds that way to me.

idk i think the newer one is better . this one is missing the mind-blowing climactic ass key change at the end , as well as the incredible keyboard solo in the beginning . i also like how andrew's voice sounds and the mixing & mastering on the newer one better . this one's also missing the triplets when he says "mom and dad started getting all sad again" . the newer one just sounds way more matured , like he was sitting on this song for a while and added a bunch of cool little details while it was in the oven . all of my favorite songs of his are ones he's worked on for a really long time - "girls own love" , "the song" , "totally stupid" , "music or die" , "the moving room" .

listening to this again 6 months later i also don't think the "hi hat every other beat" drum pattern in the beginning fits as well as the punk 4 on the floor of the new version . i will say andrew's voice on this one is super unique and has grown on me for sure
