You make me enjoy learning tennis more than any other coaches. I got a good slice backhand but not so much straightforward. So I really wanted to learn how Pros do their slice backhand then I got this. Thanks! Keep it up.

I have never heard that tip before on the slice backhand. It looks like he is almost using the left hand to help throw the racquet head into the ball. I am certain I have been doing just as you say most do, which is start my left hand backwards countermove to early(before contact). Great tip.

You have the right idea. Feel like the left hand assists going forward. Then let go just prior to hitting and pull it back as your stay sideways. Let me know how it goes!!

I can hit a solid bh slice but can't explain how to do it if my life depended on it. My mindset is to punch the ball with the racket head perpendicular to the ground. Definitely helps to have a 1h backhand as the starting motion is more familiar, but the stroke is completely different, almost the inverse of a top spin bh.

Great work, Ryan. I think you don’t approve Dimitrov Bh topspin drive for beginners. Thought why you were using this video, then realised its for by slice.

So what should tennis coaches teach?

@@2MinuteTennis Drills for things that the ordinary player can learn and actually execute. I tried those convoluted movements you described for the serve. It was a disaster. All it did was to confuse me and cock-up my existing serve. Internet learning has its limitations - because the students have no ability to be assessed. Maybe concentrate on one aspect of a drill that is easy to master?

I noticed a lot of KZbin video teach the slice backhand using the “throwing the racket” drill, which make me think we should slice below the ball at contanct

Tip 2 : The left hand doesn’t help to keep the racket vertical ( 3.00 ) but the moment he releases the racket is even horizontal!!! And because of that he has to pull his hand down so he can make that SUPINATION motion to get that racket vertical !!! And because of that he finishes higher then federal who goes in a different way to contact. Try to explain to the people how to get that racket vertical !!!
@2MinuteTennis

There’s a difference between being right and being helpful. I understand exactly what you’re saying. Using the left hand DOES help AMATEUR players get the racket vertical. It’s not how PROS do it, but for people who struggle with their slice backhands bc their face is wide open at contact, using the left hand does help them get it closed. Speaking from 24 years of coaching experience on this one. 🎾😊👍

@@2MinuteTennis ok then , explain in which part the racket can stay or go vertical to contact ? because showing a horizontal racket ( dimitrov ) before you go to contact and relasing the racket at that moment in a horizontal position is what im interested in, even after 40years (16more then you) of coaching i still want to learn . i would love to see one of your students keep the racket vertical with the left hand.

@@thereisnogod3924 There is a difference between left hand keeping it vertical AND helping it keep vertical. You haven't understood it for 40 years and can't understand it now, not with that sarcastic, narrow-minded tone anyways 😂
@thereisnogod3924
@thereisnogod3924 2 жыл бұрын
@@sach8906 it’s not because somebody makes a lot of videos he is a good coach !! He shows a top player with a good slice but asking something different to do 🤔to recreational players ( then why show top players ) he is asking a flat stroke with a slightly open racket face and that’s the reason why you can follow longer in the direction of target which not one player with a good slice does !! ( I have no problem with the fact racketface more straight at contact and arm going back ) I would love to see him play a slice on chest or shoulder high in that way with a vertical racket..
