The point i liked about this video is how you are showing how to defend and protect your head and even if the body is left open for a body shot, i can attest to the fact that in a street fight most people are untrained and they throw haymakers and aim for the head. Trust me even if you leave your body open to shots its unlikely someone would go for a body shot. Great video again.

Superb, succinct, and clear analysis of these three defensive positions. Three great points were: 1. How these three positions DO effectively protect your head! 2. How quickly and easily you can transfer to offense from these positions and 3. The importance of "monitoring", as I refer to it, the first punching hand as you intercept the second punch. At this close range you have to rely mostly on tactile awareness.

Hands down one of my favorite Channels on youtube. Even though videos pertaining to street fighting/self-defense the are so many things I can take away on the sports side especially when it comes to muay Thai and working in dirty boxing. But some times I find it hard to retain and train with others because of the Wing Chun elements. Things like using forearms and traping I find it difficult to do especially with gloves. In my area, there are no wing Chun schools and none of my Couches have experence with that. Any recommendations maybe you can let me know what videos I should archive so I can drill them.
@fightscience4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sticking with us. It's great that you have an open mind that will take you far in your martial arts training. I mostly try to teach concepts these days, so they are transferable to any style. Having said that approaches such as trapping in Wing Chun don't transfer to glove work. At a basic level it can be useful in hand fighting for clinches. Once the pandemic passes I will try to film something for you. Be safe and well.

I am not so sure that these moves are not better suited to a trained fighter and not really for self defence. The instructor obviously knows fighting but appears to be somewhat technical. His movement is trained, clean and precise, I just wonder how effective this kind of defence is against an aggressive stronger opponent. I am certainly not looking for any arguments, this man certainly deserves respect. If you want to attempt to educate me please reply. I am hear to learn though, not to argue.

Good video. Can you provide some insights into how one would apply these principles in defending against strikes to the body?
@scarfholdgraphicsmedia95014 жыл бұрын
Body shots need to be set up. We need to think of real street combat as different to ring based fighting. Very very different. Even people with boxing training will struggle against unorthodox punches and rhythm. The human eye is rubbish at seeing a punch also. This is why a tight cover followed by some sort of clinch is most effective. Instinctively, most guys aim for the head.
@rashaudolson56544 жыл бұрын
Agreed on body shots needing to be set up first. Not only will an unorthodox fighter aim for the head... they'll likely swing for it EVEN THOUGH YOU'RE ABOUT TO HIT THEM ANYWAY! Trained fighters learn not to trade (unless they know they can afford it ahead of time), and would keep distancing or cover-up against a potential hit. Unorthodox... not so much. And trading a body shot for a wild headshot against someone you're not prepped for... I agree, not a good idea.

I used the shell/guard today in self defence against someone who started throwing punches at me, but after I blocked and countered him with some punches I got careless to my surroundings and sucker punched in the side of my head/nose 👃 I think my nose may be dislocated I don't know but lots of blood. I was beating the 1 guy but I got carried away like it was a fair 1 on 1 and then bam got my head rocked by his mate and I'm lucky I'm not KO'd or lucky there was no weapon or knife l, it's a big wake up call to me I already have titanium plates in my face. I think hopefully it doesn't happen again but if I have to defend myself again I think I will be more fast on my feet like Bruce Lee and worry less about my block/guarding and more on fast strikes to multiple targets if need be and juts keep backing up and moving around as much as possible and maybe use the elbow guard if need be similar to that shell but where you bring your elbows tight up and tuck chin down I side with hands wrapped over the back of your head and I think it would be a effective block against a glass bottle or even a baseball bat. I think I will be going back to some mauy thai training just so hopefully I don't end up in this situation again but self defence is necessary. I've been homeless and going through a fucked time in my life no drugs or alcohol but sometimes when you are homeless trying to get a place to live and a job you just attract violence and hate from people it's fucked, but I think my local martial arts club might just be the best thing for me right now.
