As a 20,000 hour retired pilot the one thing I missed the most about my career is not getting to taxi a 747. Once your get them in the air they are pretty much the same (OK a Twin Otter and a 767 may not have quite the same flight characteristics), but dang that view, maneuvering around an array of blue lights must give you that proud feeling.

This video is dedicated for those who doubt about Kelsey being a real pilot. Just because somebody is not the way people idealize they should be, sometimes an average Joe is not accepted as a real player for that particular role... and that's called PREJUDICE! I feel very proud of anybody being able to perform such a duty. They have my deepest respect! Greetings from Brazil.
@edronc20072 жыл бұрын
You are right, but it is absolutely ridiculous. How do the millennials, a generation that made billionaires out of the Kardashians, want a pilot to look? Like George Clooney? (Insert any matching "good looking" poofter here!) I am a woman with decades of opportunities to judge male attractiveness (in fact, I think I could probably be Kelsey's and Mentour Pilot's mother), so trust me when I say how grotesque that is.
@andreferro46182 жыл бұрын
Wise words you just said. I'm 62 and I also could be their father! It's so sad that people have this kind of approach to life... We are fortunate we are different than that. It's not about ours or theirs, generation. It's about who we are, who we became along time. Shallow heartness (I don't know if I just invented a word...) can be found in all ages! My wife and I are retired crew members of an extint airline company called VARIG BRAZILIAN AIRLINES and because of that, we saw a lot of situations where this kind of behavior could be spoted. I'm lucky my wife was not looking for some "George Clooney" (she would find some, if she wanted to...), so she had the chance to see somebody like me, an average Joe, just like Kelsey. Best regards from Brazil. And by the way, please pardon me for my bad English.

I retired as a lead after 35 years of building the 747 empennage in general, and the pressure dome specifically, for this beautiful work of art. I miss the work and I miss the folks I worked with. AO # 1572 was just completed and seeing pictures of her put a lump in my throat ........ 1574 is the last one to be built. No "spares" for the empennage exist. I am grateful to have built every pressure dome since April of 1986, about 1000 of them. So many stories, so many memories....... Please take good care of her for she is the last of her kind ....... 🙂

So to summarize the two videos: the 747 is the single pilot's dream, while the 737 is the married pilot's dream. I always did prefer the idea of being a 737 pilot, even as much as I love the 747, just because taking off and landing is the fun part of flying, and you get to do that more in a 737. The only reason I ever wanted to be a 747 pilot (apart from how cool the plane is) was to fly into the old Hong Kong downtown airport which closed before I got into middle school.

@@ericbedenbaugh7085 they have done over 600 test flights since the grounding. also air canada has been flying because it's the only 737 type in their fleet, so they have to di it every 6 months for their pilots to keep their rating

Awesome to see you both in the same room! Two great channels full of knowledge, entertainment, and much needed reassurance for an uneasy flier (me).

I obviously haven't been watching Mentour for long enough since I'm just seeing this video a year and a half after it was made. I specifically googled "mentour pilot 74 gear" in hopes of finding a video like this and it did not disapoint!

When I was a teen in the 70s I flew in a couple 747s to Europe from the US. Very comfortable flight! Last time I went to Europe I had an Airbus.

In 2018 I flew JFK to MAN on a Virgin Atlantic 747 and I expect it will be my very last flight on a 747. Return to the US was on an A330-300 instead, MAN-ATL

In the eighties I flew from Amsterdam to Tokio vv 3 times in a 747. In those days that flight still was via Anchorage, Alaska! An 8-hour and a 7-hour stretch with like 1 hour inbetween, but the 3rd time it was not so bad anymore, you get used to it quite quickly.

Just discovered 74 gear myself (a week or two ago) after being a Mentour fan for just over a year so the timing on this is almost eerie. I'm really loving Kelsey's concise, right to the point style. Also, he looks a lot more like me than pretty boys Petter (sp?) and Joe. :P

I had been binge watching Mentour, and "accidently" watched 74 Gear and got hooked on it also. Different styles, but for me as a non pilot (I dont even fly much) completely enjoyed , and LEARNED much. thank you both!

Earlier this morning ,, I was watching some videos from 74Gear and from Mentour Pilot. After an hour or maybe two ,, I’m already looking at the both of them in just a single vid and I love it. This is undoubtedly and absolutely fantastic 🤩 More Collab between aviation vloggers ✈️🤝✈️

Great video guys - the 747 is the first aircraft I flew in as a child and is one of my favourites. I would love to be able to fly on one again as a passenger before they disappear from domestic flights. An absolute classic!

I was watching both channels guys, and suddenly came across this video... I am over the moon that you did a video together. You are both fantastic. Thank you!

I love both channels. I wanted to change career to become a pilot but in the 80s it was too expensive for me. So I spent years as a paramedic firefighter for AFRS, ambulance services and a rescue squad in the US. My ultimate pilot goal was permanently grounded and it ended my ambition. I did get to sit in a BA Concorde Captain's seat at Heathrow when I was working there.
