3 BIG Mistakes Every VTuber Makes

I just got into Vtubing so this was some good perspective! Though, I will say, my whole brand is lore -- but I'm running a worldbuilding channel and promoting my writing, rather than running the typical calvalcade of gaming/karaoke/ASMR/advice than Vtubers usually run. It's going decently for me only doing this part time, so I think you can get away with having lots of lore if the lore is the point!

Great video :3 Only thing I would sorta disagree with is the part about the lore. I feel like lore is a bit under-utilized for a lot of Vtubers. Some people make some really awesome worlds filled with neat ideas, but don't ever really use it for anything other than just set dressing. Incorporating bits of that lore into future content I think would help more people stand out uwu

i think lore can be used for a lot of interesting video ideas, but i've noticed it's prevented people from actually starting to make their content, which is why I encourage people to not focus so much on it when just starting out. I think your channel is a great example of how to incorporate lore into your content & im glad to see you making videos!

​@@HowtoVtube Ahh that's a fair point. When starting out there's a whole laundry list of things you need to do, and worry too much about lore can really add to the analysis paralysis. Linking lore into content is definitely a tricky process. I really tried thinking outside of the box when linking my lore into the Vtuber Guide video I'm making so that hopefully it gives people watching even better ideas on how to expand upon it in the future. And hehe, thank you very much Mari! It means a lot to hear you say that. Your content has helped me out a ton throughout the last two years. I even mentioned you and suggested people check out your PNG Vtuber guide in my video 👉👈 I wish I could show you it, buuuut it's still rendering xD I should have it up within the next two days or so ^w^

Thank you for this, I was making the lore mistake of having a super deep, multi series plotline with a bunch of characters and enough pages to fill a Mass Effect codex(for context I do a lot of writing in my spare time and as much as I wanted to keep it simple, my brain refused to stop thinking and I ended up with a complicated universe. Creativity can actually be a curse sometimes, this being one instance). I'll move on to another stage of development now and not worry about lore, if I want to bother with lore I'll release it sometime after starting.

Fun and entertainment is much more important than lore. It can build like you said. And newer viewers will not even know your lore so that won't draw them in to stay. I think I remember that you have videos on how to use socials properly, so I'm gonna look for those, but if I'm misremembering, any plans to make a video on how to advertise yourself?

lore can be a great way to provide more value to your content, but it isnt what defines your content is where a lot of people seem to misunderstand. i do have an old socials video on the main channel, but i plan on making a new one here soon!

Becoming a vtuber is easy... it's the semantics and the intrinsic motivation that's the actually hard part. Excuses for why you can't *insert action here* are too easy to come up with. "I can't be a vtuber yet because I haven't figured out my lore or my logo or my branding." "I can't be a vtuber because I don't have good enough equipment/art skills/money." If you want it bad enough, you will find a way. Maybe it isn't ideal, but I myself jumped in with only vague lore, a scuff Live2D model, and zero idea how to vtuber last year. But I've managed to do a heck of a lot despite my limitations because I just DO it. The longer you sit around saying you don't know what to do or how to do it, the longer you won't be making progress towards your goals. So yeah, lingering on design or lore makes no sense to me. I regret dawdling for a year after making my current model because I didn't plan to even use it because I thought it was so bad. But, as our lovely senpai said in video, most the time, your community will grow to associate your model as YOU so unless it's necessary, I wouldn't bother with rebranding either once you've started. That's kinda why I'm hesitant on auditioning to agencies now too. I'd like to keep my character concept.

it's something i regret spending a lot of time on too, which is why i encourage people to just start making content. it's taken me two years to flesh out my "lore/brand/logo"

I mean, not having a pc that is able to play games you play , simulate your model and stream at the same time is a hard block in all honesty
