What a true statement...get inspiration from others outfits, but come up with your own style. I do not do a capsule wardrobe- but I do pair down quite a bit and keep a limited wardrobe. One in, one out sort of thing. Up until recently I would always buy or emulate others styles but never really liked it. Now - if I am not in love with the piece or it doesn’t make me fabulous- it doesn’t come with me or if it is something I already own - it’s gets donated. Thank you for sharing this video!

Thanks, Liz! I love the idea of if "it doesn't make me fabulous" being the bar for your clothing to meet!

Your video was suggested by KZbin and I am so happy I saw it. I’ve been watching a few hundred capsule wardrobes and it honestly seems as if these ladies have the exact same clothing items or they are “sharing” a closet. It became discouraging for me because I absolutely love fashion, bright and bold colors, and items that are more feminine but I like a bit edginess in my fashion as well. I don’t want to wear all black, tan, gray, or navy all the time. I know everyone is different but I couldn’t understand why all these ladies were basically wearing the same thing. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this.

Thanks for your comment, Karrie! I tried copying that neutral style for a while a few years ago and it didn't make me happy. Hopefully you can figure out how to curate your closet in a way that works best for you! I personally love focusing on the silhouettes I feel most confident in (mostly A-line dresses and skirts) and choosing a seasonal color palette which allows me to wear lots of color but the tones shift throughout the year.

Nice video! I definitely recognized myself in this. First because I have too much clothes that don't go with each others so it's hard to build a capsule wardrobe from it. Second, because I've seen too many people transitioning to downsized wardrobe using only neutrals and I know I don't want to do that. I only feel I can move forward building small capsule wardrobe first.

Glad you could relate Jennifer! I hope you feel empowered to create a smaller, curated wardrobe full of color if that's what speaks to you!

Great video, I’ve made the same mistakes. I have bought things based on videos I watched and tried to copy someone else’s style, and then hated the look on me. So, My work clothes consists of blazers, dress shirts, dress pants and loafers. At one time, I owned 2 blazers, 1 black and 1 brown. But with time I got bored and decided that since most of my time is spent in work clothes, I wanted to have more fun with it. And I invested time and effort into curating my work clothes, now I’m happy and feel very comfortable in that area. However, I still feel a bit lost when it comes to my casual wear, specially in the summer when I can’t wear that third piece, lol. In the winter, I tend to follow the same formula as my work clothes, jeans, top, jacket and boots, but I still feel like something is missing, and for the life of me I don’t know what that is, lol. One thing I do is keep my work clothes separate from my casual wear, and I think that’s were I’m missing out and limiting myself. . . . ? Anyway, sorry for the rant. Hope to learn more from your experience. Thank you!

Great tips! I love that you have quite a feminine and colorfull capsule wardrobe, even though my style is completly different. It's nice to see some variation to the mostly monochrome-black-and-white-capsules on social media
